Prefered Cam....

Postby Badgerboy on Fri Feb 24, 2006 7:20 pm

I'm currently running a 1.6CVH Stage 2 head, with twin Weber 40's.

Currently the engine is on a standard cam, and is really over carbed. Instead of just thowing fuel away, I'm going to invest in a cam kit.

I've been looking at;

Piper CVHBP270 Kit and
Piper CVHBP285C Kit.

Any extra power is welcome, but I don't want a really lumpy idle. Can anyone fill me in on their experiences with a 285, and how the car drives?

Thanks

Additonally - When I had the head off, I was looking at the tops of the tappets. They seem to have little indented metal discs, that freely rotate if you try to spin them round. Are these standard?

Naturaly aspirated ...... carb's ....... what's that ?? :wink:

All i know is the Piper 285 cam for the turbo isnt getting great reviews, but could be totally different for N/A.
From advice i bought a Kent cam for my FRST and will be again for the new engine.

Meh, RS for the summer, the N/A is my daily drive!

Currently. it tops out at about 4k, and doesn't want to rev any higher. My rolling road chappy recommended the Piper for road use, and the Kent for track.

I might go for the 270 then (Or equivilent), if only for the more stable idle.

Funnily enough, cars have been running carbs for quite a few years now.

No, carbs don't mean a lumpy idle.
