If you still have the 1800 lump i wouldnt bother about the cams. You will be paying alot of money for very little increase. If i were to get them i would get them from Raceline. They specialise in zetec tuning and are about £375 i think.

piper quote a difference of 16bhp with their cams,
raceline dont say how much their cams will increase power
as for chip i think you would be better off with a remap!!
as most chips only cater for normal air filter and exhaust upgrades,
so anyhting else like headwork, cams etc
its better to get a remap

People i know who have replaced the cams got about 8-10bhp max. Thats using kent cams. This seems to be because the rs1800 standard cams are already have a higher lift. Alot of money for 8-10bhp

ok but gotta remember there are some ragged rs1800's out there now, so not always gona get full potential out of upgrades,
theres a few things which could also say why they only got 8-10bhp,
did they get the full cam kit? as its best to have new followers when changing cams as they wear their own groove so to speak,
also do you know for def what they were pushing before they put the cams in? as not all cars perform to what they say in the book,
most ppl expect rs1800's to be 130bhp when inface its 130ps which works out as 128bhp, then baring in mind the engines have been around a while
so could be pushing anything from 122-128bhp for example,
so when you put a cams in 122+16= 138 so then most people say only gave 8bhp,
what i'm getting to is, cams with appropriate headwork and vernier pulleys can get 155bhp out of an rs1800 lump,
so cams are'nt a waste of time

The engine was 27,000 miles and it produced 136 with superchip, exhaust, de-cat and cams. Torque was up though. If you get the head done then yeah cams are a good idea. The old zetecs do like a bit of head work My zetec is producing 126bhp and 128lbft of torque, not bad for 86,000 miles
