Hey guys,

Just had some good financial news and now have some money lined up to finish the turbo

On the shopping list for tomorrow:

- Pro Alloy front mount single pass intercooler kit
- .48 or .63 T3 exhaust housing
- ACT gauge
- booking it into Grove to get setup

Hoping for about 250bhp but we'll have to wait and see

Sorry - I've almost wet myself in anticipation of driving it 'properly' again

What you don't know is that one of your core plugs has begun to fail from the temperatures in storage and some localised rust buildup. When you drive the car it will go to fail but the deposits will create a small crack spraying water over the coil pack, causing it to short and the 125kV pulse to arc down to the fuel line and blow your car up in spectacular fashion...

Hi mate,

He recommended a particular type of intercooler and then said to look at Pro Alloy ones to see what type of core they use. I originally planned to find out a core design that obviously worked and was going to get Serck or someone similar to make me an intercooler to my own spec. But then when looking at the Pro-Alloy website about a month or so ago I noticed that they were about to launch a front mount intercooler kit so i thought I'd wait and see what it was like (noticing that it was single pass).

So yes and no in a way - as for price, it's alot! (£380 + VAT ).

- .48 or .63 T3 exhaust housing - pass, Turbo Technics are pretty slack on the phones so am looking to buy from somewhere that can actually help me rather than say they'll call me back and then don't bother - anybody know of a good place to buy a .48 or .63 exhaust housing for an ERST T3 turbo? I'm not talking about somewhere that sells secondhand as I don't want to have to do secret handshakes, say the password and then knock 3 times on some backstreet garage door to pick the wrong one up

- ACT gauge - R&B Motorsport - check

- booking it into Grove to get setup - will do that once I've secured all of the parts

Not exactly - alot of this is being (part) funded by the sale of some of the bits on the car at the moment

It's quite important to me that the businesses show-car actually goes along, and it doesn't at the moment!

Anyone else know a good source of T3 exhaust housings (.48 or .63)?

Hey guys, the Pro Alloy front mount intercooler arrived today.



It's very nicely constructed with clean welding and it comes with all the kit you'll need to fit it up, including a Spal slimline fan to replace the standard FRST one, silicon hoses, jubilee clips and mounting screws. It also has alloy pipework for connecting the IC up.

The tanks on either end are nicely angled and are arranged so that the flow pattern is top to bottom and the intercooler core uses a single pass arrangement. This allows the air passing through the IC to be kept at a higher speed whilst still getting the desired cooling effect that the core should bring

You'll notice in the pile of bits there that there's a .48 T3 exhaust housing which is due to go onto the car very soon along with an XR2i radiator with correct Samco hoses (thanks to TonyBlackFRST ) - this should allow the T3 to 'breathe' properly

dont forget to chop your bumper to get more air to it, pointtless having a big intercooler behind the bumper

jono - I'm sure you could use it. Pro Alloy developed this cooler to be used as a direct bolt on for the FRST, with all necessary piping for T3-converted engines. It uses a vertical core as opposed to the usual horizontally-cored coolers, which allows single pass cooling as opposed to twin-pass which can hinder air flow. Pro Alloy boasted this cooler was vastly superior to all twin-pass coolers, on charge temps and lag, but I've since heard that due to the short length of the cores (top to bottom) the cooling effect isn't as good as a long horizontal cores. I daresay the proof will be in Mr Andy's pudding! They bolt straight on with no mods, a present trend with all the better alloy fabrication companies

Interesting. I assumed with a single pass that entry & exit would be at opposite ends of the core, much the same way as a radiator, to ensure the Charge air takes the longest path through the intercooler. Can you do some more comprehensive pics of it please Andy?

Paul - The reason they took a while to develop it was so that the original port positions could be retained while using single pass cores, hence the vertical cores

just one thing though sorry mate... i dont think you will be able to use the 2i samcos for your rad, as the 2i rad cant sit in its normal position (its too big ) as shown below





is that how you will have your cooler like the black one posted by james?

yeah no worries mate, shame that though

basically as far as i can remeber the 2i rad fitted by ford used to sit bang in the middle so used to bascilly fill it so theres no way your getting boost hoses pass the side (like in my picture)

unless you move the rad towards the offside of the car (like i have done)

ial try and get some better pics for you or if not pop over some time if youre in the area
