Problems with uprated pads?

Postby Mav Singh on Mon Mar 14, 2005 8:02 pm

i spoke to a guy today abouut using uprated brake pads with standard discs on cars and he told me that its not a good idea because the uprated pads generate more friction which leads to more heat and will cause you disks to warp within a week or so of hard braking.

is this true?

if i put something like EBC green stuff brake pads on me Si which has standard discs would they bust the discs?

In a way it is true - EBC pads are known to warp disks, or atleast be harsh on them.

The problem is just as bad with most uprated disks aswell.

ahh good thing i checked this out with you guys first. so are uprated pads on standard discs of any use then?

i mean what sort of percentage increase in braking would be seen when using uprated pads??

so comming to final point, what are the best pads to use on the fiesta Si without causing damage to the discs? would standard ford pads be the best or is there something else??

thanks

My experience:

Greenstuff pads and disks: disks grooves fill up with dust and become useless.

Greenstuff pads and std disks: pads warp disks easily. I was replacing disks way too often.

Std pads and std disks: not as bad as you think and working well for everyday use.

standard it is then,

why do people bother to buy the green stuff discs and pads if they are useless?

why do people buy ecotek valves, etc etc - its mostly marketing.

the EBC pads will likely be a better pad, but not that most people would notice.
