Programming a third key (bought from ebay)

Problem or technical question?

Programming a third key (bought from ebay)

Postby mosaddique on Wed Nov 19, 2014 12:47 pm

I am hoping someone on this forum has some experience of this.
I have a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec (2008 facelift edition 57 plate) which we bought and came with two remote keyfobs (has tibbe keys).
Both keys work OK.
The car is driven by three members of the family and I wish all to have a key each.
I bought an old ford key with matching part numbers from ebay and tried to use the in car key programming as shown in the car manual.
However, the key I bought from ebay cannot be learnt.

Does anyone here know why this might be?
Is it that you cannot programme a key that was previously learnt on another car? Is there some other reason.
I chose the ebay route as buying a key from Ford is very expensive.

I have checked the battery and the buttons on the fob and they seem fine. Actually battery is new.

Any ideas anyone?

Just so as you are aware of the procedure I used, this is what the instructions say in my manual on how to program a key.

To programme a new remote control:

• Turn the ignition key to position II four times within six seconds.
• Switch off the ignition. A tone sounds to indicate that it is now possible to programme a new remote control.
• Press any button on a new remote control. A tone will sound as confirmation.
Repeat this last step for all of your remote controls, including the original.
• Switch the ignition back on or wait for ten seconds without programming another remote control to end remote control programming.

Only the remote controls which you have just programmed are now able to lock and unlock your vehicle.

You either need to get the key cloned, take it to an auto locksmith, or dealer to add a key to the immobiliser system.

Thanks for replying. That is what I was afraid of.

The cheapest quote I have got for that is £99.00. Not worth getting a third key at that price.
We just have to share.
