project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
this is from my local website's project diary page, sw-cc.com
thats why its so much all at once
will do my best to keep this up to date aswell,
now the car is in the bodyshop with pics etc
Make & Model...
fiesta si 1.6 16v
Introduction...
on my third fiesta, an attempt to finish what i've always wanted to do
The Story So Far...
my third fiesta, had simular plans with the other two, but as life goes on the past two fiesta's came to an early death, this one was'nt as clean as the previous ones but seen more as a project which will be more fun,
also got a big point to prove with this one
Plans...
to have a ford stylee mk3 fiesta with subtle mods from other ford cars
as i'm late starting this project diary i'll just summarise whats been done to date!
the car has gone through various stages from different wheels to different suspension set ups
first was a 40mm drop on gmax shocks and springs
then went to 17's from the last fez
then i went back to 15's for winter
15" rs2000 rims
then the progression to avo coilovers
during the time of having this car its been on the rolling road during various stages of mods
starting from
93.5bhp and 152nm of torque
119.5bhp and 166nm of torque
129bhp and 169nm of torque this being my last result to date
thats why its so much all at once
will do my best to keep this up to date aswell,

little update
first working in fords is heavan, priced up loads of bits and found out loads of information generally
plus having a money coming in always helps
a common thing and something thats been a problem with my car for some time
lower arms, i tend to be going through a set every two or three months plus the front tyres
which is ridiculous
this being down to poor design mainly, with bushes always popping out and breaking very easily
obviously does'nt help once the car is lowered aswell lol
so i've invested in some ZOO motorsport lower arms
which are tubular and fully adjustable in castor and camber
so should get full wear out of my tyres in future
my current standard lower arms
new uprated versions fully adjustable
they should arrive next thursday powder coated in a ford blue
with all new bolts etc and all rose jointed parts zinc coated
getting quotes for bodywork at the moment aswell,
so its getting close

well some more news since the lower arms went on,
i changed the link bars on the anti roll bar for new items from fords,
did'nt take a pic as its pretty boring lol
my original plan for brakes was brembo 4 pots,
but after talking with a brake specialist before buying a set for a focus rs,
i was told they would not fit using any size disc under my new choice of wheels,
so a change of plan, but i'm happy with it
escort cosworth front brake set up is the new plan, already sourced it and should be picking it up in the next week or two,
so while i'm there i'll be having braided hoses aswell
and finally vibratechnic gearbox mounts to keep things solid lol
also i have my new wheels in work waiting for me,
just mainly bodywork to sort now and the rest should come together easily
will update with pics when things arrive etc

still excited about the car going in the bodyshop,
heres a pic of all the spanking new panels i've got stored in work,
went for original ford parts as thier the best fit and finish
also ben diesel took a pic of the fez on the m4,
never had a rolling pic before,
gona be the last pic now untill bodyshop time
fitted the vibratechnic gearbox mounts,
WOW what a huge difference, the car is totally more responsive and quicker
only downside being the car vibrates like mad on idle, but i dont mind that much
only downside is that a spider on the cv joint passenger side has either come off or broken,
so going around roundabouts feels like the car is fighting you is the only way i can describe it,
so kept it off the road until tuesday as i've already ordered a new spider for the shaft,
also yet to arrange transport during its time in the bodyshop

BAD NEWS
or should i say bad timing, changed the spider in the inner cv joint,
made no difference, after alot of checking we discovered in work that the diff on the passenger side is buggered,
so the drivers side has been doing all the work lol
its a week sat till the car goes in the bodyshop for about a month,
so gona have a ring around in work 2moro to find a cheap gearbox for now,
basically want the car to drive to trax with its new bodywork then i'll take it off the road for proper engine work,
so really not worth getting a real gearbox yet,

some catch up pics of things i've mentioned above,
first the adjustable lower arms fitted and wax oiled
the uprated vibratechnic gearbox mounts compared to the old buggered ones
my new diesel box and shafts, only done a genuine 40k
gona give it a clean before it goes in
not sure if i've mentioned it above, but always had a problem shifting gears quickly,
when changing the gearbox mounts i discovered the selecting rod linkages going to the gearbox were badly worn and loose, so cant be helping at all,
so bought a new rod, close up of the linkages all nice new and tight
also got some anti-roll bar bushes to finish the near new front end runnign gear lol

well might aswell show you some pics of my bodywork,
give you more of an idea why i'm changing most panels
the rear quarter, as u can see terrible repair, looks full of filler and no real shape to it,
rust appearing on the lip of arch,
scabby bits on the bottom of the door and wing
then we come to usual place for fiesta's to rust,
the sill's normally cos this is where the drip rails for the sunroof come out inside the sill,
so always rust, i hope to extend the pipe out of the sill a bit more, so it wont come back
there are more problems like the boot,
but i'll get better pics to show the extent of the rust tommorrow,
its quite bad because of a aftermarket mondeo estate spoiler that was put on and just drilled thru the metal leaving water drip through,
anyway enough about that, will update more tommorrow

3. put some nasty wheels on which i dont care about, (over spray etc)
4. raise the suspension as i dont think the bodyshop will appreciate it being sooo low lol
already got the audio out, gona take the rear seats out tonight, will have carpets out etc tommorrow,
so will take some bare pics then

also taking my new wheels up there for a trial fit
also hoping to groove my cossie discs and have them zinc coated ready for when she comes out of the bodyshop

yes the combo of tyre and alloy has been done before,
not worried about high speed cornering, as i have'nt spent all this money to race it and spoil it lol,
if its ever going to be taken on the track, then i'd have different wheels and tyres made for the job
thanks for the comments guys,
got a big update tonight, currently sorting pics

in this pic you can see all the new panels fitted,
heres the zetec s rear bumper on just to get a slight idea,
had to have the rear towing eye taken off for this fit, you can see how much the exhaust is inside the bumper,
this will have to be brought out more
heres the current state of the bonnet, not a full on bad boy as i think they're are bit ott
heres the passenger side, was still being finished off but you can see more,
was a small patch on the inner arch with a bit of rust, thats been sorted,
suprisingly enough tho was told how clean and good the actual shell is for a fiesta,
despite the condtion that the outside of it was in, the inside is good and solid
as you can see the rear arch has a gap missing, this was removed as this part is always a pain with big wheels on fiesta's, when i had the car 17's before this was heavily grinded back and was still close,
so now its being done properly its all gone lol
the rear arch is also rolled and folded like on the mk5 fiesta zetec s, so no need for arch trimming
the filler cap kneck had the start of a scab of rust also, so thats been cut out and sorted as you can see in primer,
heres an overall pic of the fez with eddie working on it,
and a few other cars there which show their workmanship, including the custom exhaust they made
