Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
nope sorry jonny
waiting for mark to remove the pats system from my loom,
then the loom is off to be braided at the same time as the engine harness being done,
once the loom is back the ball will really start moving.................
in the mean time i've got brackets to sort for the coilpack, air injectors and map sensor
also ordered a new exhaust manifold, but i'll say more about that when i have some pictures

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
been a while since i updated this,
firstly got hold of some extended plug leads so i can move the coilpack
with the big help of luca, thanks mate
next up as the main car loom was looking rather chunky
there were a few things i wanted removed,
mainly the pats system and all associated items to do with it
also the airbag wiring
so i trusted the loom with a good mate (mark stewart)
heres some of the removed wires
next up was dropping the main car loom now its been on a diet to paul cheshire
as i wanted the visable loom in the engine bay covered in braid to match the pectel harness i'll be having soon
with a very quick turnaround, paul has done a pukka job
the blue labels are only temporary incase i have a blonde moment
paul also done my fog/driving lamp loom
it really does freshen up a 15 year old loom
very happy and would reccomend him

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
when paul came down to sunny south wales to measure up the pectel engine harness, we spoke about the possibility of one his tubular manifolds
as my current s2 manifold was not only a big restriction on the engine's potential,
but makes things look for tight for room later on for intercooler and radiator
so i've decided to go for it, its tubular with back perge welding that looks spot on
and tasty 4-1 collector!!
heres some pics on pauls own engine, once i have the manifold and decide on the final postion of the turbo, the pipework can be finished from the collector
to the t3 flange
going back to the car loom
when mark was removing things he asked if i wanted the heated front screen removing, as i did'nt realise there was one,
he went on to mention he had a spare heated screen loom
so a deal was done and recieved this today
new heated front screen to be ordered very soon
great to add this to the spec of the car,
not that it will ever be out in the frost haha

Looking great, mate Does this mean you can get her out of the bodyshop now? The car deserves that manifold! Does this mean an instant 400 or does the map need tweaking?

its on the cards very soon mate,
thanks again
as for the manifold i'm really happy with the decision
i was planning to pop up to harvey's for him to check the map out when its all up and running
but i'll have to have a chat with him soon to see what he thinks,
as with alot less restriction from the exhaust manifold it wont need the boost trimmed down after 4k

Nice. When you say back purge welding what do you mean?? As in they have used backing gas by filling the pipes with shielding gas as they are welded up?? or something else??

bunged one end of the tube,
filled with gas and then welded the outside,
with the benefits of the gas keeping the penetrated weld tight and smooth on the inside aswell
so not to cause any restrictions
think i've seen on one of your threads your a proper welder,
so go easy on me if i've got something wrong ha

Lol yea I'm a welded/fabricater in raf.
Thats spot on mate you should always use a backing gas on stainless werever possible. Just stops oxidisation and porosity in the weld surface makiing a much stronger longer lasting weld.
Keep up the good work mate

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
some more progress
the main loom is roughly in place
to keep things neat, i've tried laying the loom a certain way
one way involved going through the heater motor cover
so with a bit of modding
got the dash back in which is a nice sight, makes the car look a little more together inside
rear parcel shelf trims back on
also got hold of some new sidelight bulb holders as mine were manky and beyond cleaning
also trimmed the support bracket which holds the throttle cable as it scratched the heater cover
it needs a freshen up but thats something to sort later
before
after
also a quick shot of my rc 750cc injectors

quick question, does the mk4/5 etc iB5 gearbox mount in the mk3 cradle?
i figured you had to weld overhead mounts in like the mk4s have

Rob, Can you pleasepost the code for the sidelight bulb holders?
If you have them to hand: the loom clips from the inner wings in the engine bay, and from under the car the fuel/brake pipe & hand brake cable clips?
