project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
well its been sometime since i've updated, money has been tight etc
also basically nearly had to get the car out of the bodyshop
but thats all sorted since i'm now personally dealing with the owner
with that in mind i've been looking into storage for it, as its not fair having it at home
as if it got damaged i'd end up chucking my teddy's out haha
so got a secure location sorted about 5mins drive from the house
more on that later
onwards and upwards
heater cover with new cut out allowing access to the tps sensor on the throttle body
as the dash in roughly in place, i wanted to relocate the LED from the toad alarm to make way for the heated front screen switch
major fail when i removed the blank,
when the alarm was installed years ago, the guy cut my heater surround bezel when putting the LED in
so at the top of the dashboard theres a cover for one of the bolts that holds the dash to the bulkhead
ideal for the alarm LED, just need to drill that out
more new parts for the collection
4 way tailgate contacts
tailgate trim
tailgate lock
new door striker next to the old one
new dark blue bonnet badge as i have'nt yet sourced the proper light blue version
that came originally on the car, its not a big priority at the moment
two new boot lamps

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
got some more updates
firstly the pectel t2 engine harness being done by paul cheshire is nearly done
just waiting to recieve the main connector to the ecu so it can be finished
here is an early pic
95% done
onto bodywork
i bought a new rear bumper some time ago
anyway as the front bumper is smoothed, so the same has been done to the rear
also got rid of the rear towing eye recess/hole and the seams on each corner of the bumpers
heres the smoothed front bumper which has been cut out for a grs evo intercooler
you lose some of the locating holes for the spot/fog lamps, which is fine
this side must of been cut for an oil cooler
but i'm not trusting my brand new spot/fogs on one screw
so got hold of a donor bumper and cut out the section needed
the result, much happier

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
firstly got hold a FRST thottle body in great condition for a bargain low price on ebay
was suprised how clean it is
my german accessory rear lights had the usual embossed markings aswell as a few marks and scratches
after wet sanding them completely, going up the grades of sanding discs and a final polish,
i got rid of the markings and all scratches
been prepping most of my panels with 320discs and scotch pads
heres the tailgate
some panels dont come with any sealer from factory,
so sealed the tailgate to the same standard i did the engine bay etc
minimal but enough to do the job without looking messy, half done here
quick picture of one of the doors prepped for primer
been having a tidy up of parts
and came across a spare t3 turbo i have, quick comparision next to my t38

hey!
can you tell me, what grades of sanding discs you used for your backlights? my puma headlights are a bit worn off, so i want to sand them, too.
greetings from germany

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
more updates on the prepping
had the rear wiper hole, rear washer hole and tailgate lock removed on the new tailgate
with a plate welded first, then lead filled
no problems with cracking etc later on
heres the tailgate lock and wiper motor hole nearly finished
with a stick of the solder used
closer look for you, as you can see the minimal amount of filler is needed to finish off
heres where the rear washer jet hole was
the doors have been blocked to find minor imperfections
using stopper etc, high build primer is next before being blocked again
handles and mirror covers and petrol flap which is the only thing left in the old choice of colour, evo electric blue
heres the bonnet, as you can see even though it was brand new
there was still a few press marks when made that we had to sort
here you can see on of the press mark problems on the bonnet
the black bit is the low point after being sanded back with a d/a
this would show up after paint otherwise
you can see the low point again on the tailgate,
nearly gone
heres the main edges of the bonnet sorted

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
firstly been doing a bit more to the cam cover,
as the factory oil breather position is mega close to the fuel rail on ian howells inlet manifold
so decided to reposition it, was also going to go bigger in size but after a quick chat to ian,
theres not much point as the block breather is the important one
so heres the old oil breather position
and after some time with the belt sander its gone
inside the cam cover the oil spray will have to be extended to make sure the new breather location is covered from oil spray
with the oil spray shield removed or whatever you call it
this ridge needs to be removed also
the result so far
the prepwork continues
after a few coats of high build primer and blocking inbetween to leave us with a finish ready for painting
decided to put the old aperture seals on the two doors and tailgate opening,
as i intend to fully wetsand the car in the future, so going to keep my new seals off until the messy stuff is over
this should hopefully be the last photo of the car like this,
panels should be on soon
trimmed the archs of the front bumper equal on both sides
one more thing...............
heres pics of the main panels with some ferrari rosso corsa red on them
and 3 coats of lacqeur

Re: project "JPH" 2.1 ZT 358bhp-365ftlb
today it was panel time,
a sight i've not seen for some time
i can now call it a car rather than just a shell on wheels haha
doors held shut with masking tape for now
strange feeling having a bonnet
new ford bolts of course, decided to leave them unpainted
bumpers in primer before they have a final prep before paint
