Good stuff. Even though the wheels are close on the line of the arch it still looks high - one of those "17s" things! I'm sure I remember you doing lots of work to allow it to go nice and low though, so we'll see that when the next 'box is on :aviator:

bridgend_boy :some catch up pics of things i've mentioned above,

first the adjustable lower arms fitted and wax oiled
Image

the uprated vibratechnic gearbox mounts compared to the old buggered ones
Image
Image

my new diesel box and shafts, only done a genuine 40k
gona give it a clean before it goes in
Image

not sure if i've mentioned it above, but always had a problem shifting gears quickly,
when changing the gearbox mounts i discovered the selecting rod linkages going to the gearbox were badly worn and loose, so cant be helping at all,
so bought a new rod, close up of the linkages all nice new and tight
Image
Image

also got some anti-roll bar bushes to finish the near new front end runnign gear lol
Image

hi mate car looks sweet can u tell me what make the lower arms u got r? cheers

thanks for the comments again,

yes their zoo motorsport arms,
they feel really solid and being able to setup the camber and castor makes for really nice feel to the steering,

was becoming a pain in the arse, changing lower arms and tyres with only the insides bald all the time

well worth it

also putting the cossie's back on as the rs7's are'nt as phat

i dont know if there is a warrenty with the lower arms
was'nt really bothered at the time,
as i was more fed up about buying lower arms and tyres all the time, plus tracking etc

and regards how low will i go?
not really sure as its on coilovers
so dont know where 60mm would be lol

so a bit of trial and error till it sits right :D

well after posting up loads while the car was in the bodyshop etc,

it feels like complete age since i last updated this page,
well things have been going slowly but not without progress

firstly had an unfortunate accident with a kerb 2 days after trax, not too bad but was'nt happy to put it nicely
so as soon as i got to work i ordered another brand new cossie wheel,
since then the old man has kerbed the back wheel, while moving the car outside the house,
so he's bought me another wheel lol
not changing them over until closer to the show season etc

next up had a spare cam cover sprayed the same colour as the car with the lettering polished and then laquered over,

replaced the gearbox and also brand new outer cv joints,

got a b&m quickshift installed with new linkage bar fitted aswell

made a good start on collecting service items for the new engine, such as gaskets, water pump, cam belt kit etc

no photos yet as my pc still aint 100%
currently on my parents lol

proper updates with pics and more progress soon!!!!

Hi Mate,

I remember reading your project thread when you were doing all the work to it last year. Was very impressed at how you went about it, and the outcome in the end. It is very nice and smooth for sure. Keep up the good work mate, cracking prject :D

Just out of interest, above you say that the new gear linkage and b & m shifter kit has been fitted. How much of a difference did you notice after these items were replaced with regard to 'play' in the whole unit. Also, would you recommend the shifter kit, does it make a big difference to the speed of changing gear??? Is it worth the cost in your eyes :-?

Cheers,
Dave :)

catch up update

firstly my new cam cover, not fitted yet waiting for the new engine to fit it to
sprayed electric blue the same as my car, with the qwords polished and then laquered
Image

i bought new outer cv joint kits from fords as i had some problems with mine,
this was a job for the old man to fit lol
Image
Image
Image

heres my st170 calipers after giving them a clean, even tho it does'nt look like it,
Image
Image

i then stripped them down and used some paint stripper to get the old paint off
Image

heres the paint bubbling nicely, ready to scrape off
Image

heres the finished items as far as paint stripper goes
Image

here they are after being shotblast aswell to get all the nooks and crannies
Image
Image

and the finshed items dipped in silver zinc plating
Image

the 300mm discs grooved by my old man (cheers gimp)
and zinc plated again
Image

new braided hoses, as i never got round to fitting the last set, as i sold them to a mate to help him out
Image

my new custom clear pulley cover
Image

some smoked face gauges i'm collecting to britghten the dash up, and keep an eye on levels more accurately
Image

new rear engine mount, to be changed when the new engine goes in
Image

new scrape mouldings/weatherstrip for the tops of the doors,
i'm trying to make the little touches to help the car look clean
Image

new wiper arms as mine look a bit manky after being on the car for many years lol
Image

more updates soon including the new engine hopefully

Cool cool, the disks look good, you git  I ordered myself some new outer weather strips for the base of the windows a few days ago too, they make the cars look old unfortunately, after a decade or so!

Hi, Great car i prefer the cossie rims though they make it look more aggressive imo. lol Just wondering how much are the weather strips? Did you buy them from ford? Didn't think they sold them anymore? Wish my bodywork was as streight as yours hehe

another little update of more goodies
seen as though i've got the 300mm st170 brakes for the front,
i decided to go for an escort rs2000 rear brake setup,
270mm disc/drum setup, when i went to pick these up i ended up coming home with the rear beam aswell

its an uprated beam which has a plate sitch welded across the lower section of the beam which is normally hollow,
will have comparison pics later on, also theres polybushes where the rear beam mounts to the chassic
so should help tighten up the feel of the back end of the fez

heres some pics for now

well thought i'd do another update, nothing to exciting but progress never the less

took the rear discs off my rear beam, lots of surface rust but no wear on them, look near new condition, unfortunately have been painted black
so off them came and gave them a going over with the wire brush
you can see the difference in the pic below of before and after
Image

and the other side of the disc's before and after having a rub down with the wire brush
Image

while the calipers were off thought i'd show some better pics of the two pot calipers, undecided about having these dipped in cadium plating like my other calipers as these are in top nick anyways????
pic from the top
Image

and a pic of the underneath
Image

then the old man took my discs to work and grooved them, also sanded the paint off the discs
the results
Image
Image

and two more pics to show the width of the discs as the drum part of the rear brakes is in the middle
Image
Image

going to get these dipped in zinc and thats it then, no more pics of disc's being grooved lol

thanks again dad,

things to do at the moment are:-
-repaint the bigger escort brake servo
-repaint the uprated rear beam
-and make a start on stripping back the old underseal under the fez

few little updates,
not sure if i showed a pic of my new wiper arms,
the old ones were badly faded, not something i just wanted to paint black
so bought new ones from work, i'm very pleased anyway even if no ones else notices lol

Image

also bought new rear opening windows as i'm not happy with the second hand ones i bought,
all new glass, nuts, washers, hinges, clips and caps etc
Image
Image
Image

also took the bottom tray out of my centre console and tried a gauge pod there,
not sure yet, quick pic anyway
