Having destroyed an ib5 yesterday with ~135bhp I will strip it once removed from the car to find the weak link! I am going for another ib5 with lsd as i've got one sitting in the garage.

one thing that confuses me, the iB5 int he mk4/5 and ka/puma hangs on a mount

how do you fit it to a mk3 fiesta?

thinking about it though the escort mk5/6, does that use a iB5, as the escort uses lower mounts

am i close? lol

Yes, that's right - but not the same kind of lower mounts as a Mk3.

yup ones at the front near where the starter goes on a mk3, theyre like brackets more than mounts tbh

the 1.8 in my si arrived still on its subframe when i bought it so i had a nose :)

As the breather had to be moved,
because the new gearbox relocates the starter motor to the back of the engine,

so the old man machined a thread, quick check to make sure it was the right thread
Image

then after some further machining it was finished just needed cleaning
Image

next up was getting the engine back on an engine stand
Image

turned over, sump, pickup pipe and windage tray off
Image

so next up to relocate the breather as the old hole was sorted,
was to drill and tap the block in the new location,
starting from the top, centre drill, tap drill, reamer with taper, tappered tap and the breather fitting
Image

used an sds drill so we could have power without high speed for the tap drill (which was centred before using)
Image

with lots of prep, clean cloths were everywhere to stop the swarf getting anywhere,
even had the hoover going at the same time and a small magnet
it all went well and was very thorough in cleaning after of any swarf

the breather fitting in its new position,
Image

and a view from inside, very happy

decided to give the block a coat of satin black while i have the chance,
as there were a few bits that could of been better
all prepped ready
Image

much happier even if you cant see much difference in pictures
Image

got the front engine mount ready
Image

and in position
Image

had the wiper linkage apart, so it could be prepped for the satin black treatment aswell
Image

with some new bits to go back together when on the car

more important things to spend my money on at the moment,
with loom etc

bought a series 2 silvertop cam cover
Image
Image

got it shot blasted clean and started removing any cast marks etc
more to come with this as i would ideally like to move the breather, but will have to sort a baffle so i dont get oil spray from the cams
Image

been on the hunt for a rare black washer cap that you cant get hold of anymore,
it will go with the red and black theme for the bay,
Image

wiper motor assembly in
Image

its getting there slowly
Image

also got the fusion fabrication heater cover on which i also sprayed satin matt black
Image

tidy stuff!!!

recieved my inlet gasket from ian aswell as an 82degree thermostat
as fords only sell a steel version these days which are quite thin and probably transfer alot of heat to the inlet
so ian sourced me a old ford style one, alot thicker and wont transfer heat as much,
(every little helps)
new ford metal version compared to the old style
Image
Image

decided where to mount my pectel t2, the old airbag module plate which bolts to the bulkhead under the dash
Image

had some dealer plates, tax disc holder and dealer sticker made up
for the oldschool bridgend ford where i work now, with the old number etc
Image

got my new bonnet latch on and reinforcement bar on, (look a bit dusty in the photo)
Image

also got my new header tank in for now aswell
Image

started tidying my gearbox mounts up and decided on silver to contrast with the black gearbox
weapons of choice, usual etch primer and hammerite which should hopefully give a bit more protection than normal paint
as i dont have time for powder coating at the moment
Image

in primer
Image

after first coat of silver under the sunbed

Awesome stuff as usual Rob, washer cap looks nice! I have seen one on a focus too in the past, although only once, 99% of them have been yellow! Maybe they are only for a certain model/year. Who knows! I might look on microcat later and see if there are variants for any models. Although I expect you have checked at work I presume?

Anyway, keep it up! Slowly getting there :)
