Adamski, Thanks mate! :D Love you too!

Excursion, Thanks for your text this morning man! You really are a bad ass ganster rappa!!

Heeman!,  Will try my best mate! I keep forgetting to take photographs!!

Cloud Strife, Thats a quality remark mate!! I like it!

irlrst, Thanks mate, just a few years knowledge of messing about with Fords unfortunately! Had fords for nearly nine years!! :o I wish it would be finished by next week! Everything seems to be taking ages unfortunately!

Grintermatt, Hey mate, how you doing!! Long time no see! That was AGES ago matey! llama! Will without a doubt take you out for a rip mate, hopefully it will put the frights up the 'locals'!

Rodge, Ahh well, worth asking anyway! No mate, the original rack mounts in the same place as the fiesta, you can just about make out the mounts on the bulkhead. Have you tried looking into the sierra crossmember? Its definately thin enough to be of use to you.

Pez, Definately mate! :D My localised extraction system is on the blink at the minute!! Cheers man!

Rhino, I'm a big fat DIRTY whore mate! Cheers man!

Todays progress,

Continued with the front chassis legs, and managed to get the most awkward bits complete. I still have to incorporate the original lower chassis legs onto the bottoms of the new ones, but it won't be that difficult.

At this point, you can see the galv pipe I have used where the crossmember bolts up to the chassis legs. The bolts run up through these and stop the legs from collapsing.

Image

You can see the lower legs from this angle better. I'm trying my best to make it look factory, so once welding etc is complete I will be treating the joints with seam sealer.

Image

The engine bay welding on the legs is almost complete here.

Image

The legs look like a slightly wierd shape, this is because I wanted to keep as much room in the engine bay as possible, whilst maintaining as much strength as possible.

Having an evening off tonight! Not even got to work, so a night in with a DVD is looking good, ready for the mornings start!

I'm planning on completing the chassis legs tomorrow, and then start to seam weld the engine bay area. Not to mention welding up all the holes that ford decided to put in my engine bay!

Over and out,

Steve

Heeman, They are both seam welded, I will be filling the whole chassis legs with underseal then waxoil. Hoping this will prevent the rot worm for a few years. Will update the date in the title mate! :)

Sphinx, It is Friday mate! Cheers though matey!

Adamski, Cheers man! I miss those updates. Get it finished man!

Todays update:

A visit from GrinterMatt earlier in the day! I think he may have got himself one of those big steaks too! :Q Good to see you matey!

As you can see by this photograph the chassis legs required finishing, and connecting to the lower original car chassis legs.

Image

The rounded shape at the rear of the wheel arch is where the old steering rack used to come through. This is no longer required, so I welded it up to strengthen the car further.

I then set about making the chassis legs meet up with the original ones. I boxed them in using the same galvanised steel.

Image

You can see in this picture the M12 nuts welded to the legs, ready for the mounting of the crossmember.

Image

Really looking forward to seeing what they look like once the whole engine bay is complete and painted! I'm hoping they will blend in as if they were meant to be there.

Still have one to finish yet, will probably do that tomorrow morning. See how it goes.

Forgot to say my guages arrived a few days ago. Autometer Phantoms. I got Boost, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure and Air/Fuel mixture. An excellent array of guages that will hopefully allow me to keep a good eye on what my engines doing.

how does the engine bay compare space wise compared to the orion? (for my own referance ;)) does the engine etc have to be rwd?

FezzR, Thanks mate! Just hope it all looks good at the end! :D

Andy.B, Thanks matey! I have this wiring diagram here, I will PM it to you later tonight, :)

Sphinx, Cheers dude! I meant one Friday, 2007!

Adamski, Too late matey!

Rhinopower, The engine would be better going in transversely if you were not going to turbocharge it, it would make for an easier build. The Mk5 escort would probably require some welding though, to make the offside engine mount work properly. :)

Todays update:

After finishing off some small bits on the chassis legs, I seam welded and strengthened the engine bay.

Image

Image

You can see I have added steel around the strut area too. This is quite flexible as standard, so I beefed it up a bit. The roll cage will be some more strength when I get round to doing it!

Image

Seam sealed the whole lot, and slapped some primer on it.

Image

Image

Then it was time to get greasy! I have kept the engine in one piece bolted to the subframe and gearbox etc. I removed it from the subframe earlier.

Image

Once the engine was bare, I removed the sump, and fitted the one I have.

Image

Then fitted the gearbox!

Image

Here is the engine on the crossmember. Ready for some engine mounts to be made up. World cup mounts are on the cards!

Image

Phew, what a day!

Class work mate as always, thanx for those diagrams, they will come in usfull as i am going down the route of splicing an 8v connector into the 16v loom so that either management can be retro fitted to the car. :)

Reason being is that i cant get hold of a connector to make a conversion loom up. Nevermind ill just have to make it look factory fit. No problem :D

Sphinx, Erm, thanks for the offer mate, but erm, i think umm, I'm washing my hair?!

FezzR, Cheers man! Come on lad, get your arse in gear! Yeah it's just a mock up at the minute for engine mounts tunnel cutting etc etc.

Mikecvh, Thanks mate, any engine conversion is a pain in the ass to be honest! It's what you want to use the car for at the end of the day, it will never be an everyday car any more..

Heeman, I'm in love with my sump too! Its top quality! Well pleased! There is no flywheel or clutch on there at the minute matey!! It's just mocked up together at the minute, just for sizing etc. Think I'm going to have some trouble with the height of the engine tbh, power bulge may be a must. Cheers man!

Andy.B. Thanks mate. :) Sounds like a good idea mate. Mount the extra relay on the bulkhead too perhaps? Will try scanning the thing in in a bit!
