I need a constant age freeze!

No major update but I got a few parts stripped and ready for mock ups.

I stripped the diff out of the Jag back axle. It's a 3.07:1 Ratio, and a powerlock salisbury 10.5" model. Should be well up to the power I'm planning on running through it. It will of course be rebuilt before completion of the project.


The rear hubs I am planning on using. These are borrowed from a Mondeo 4x4. I'm unsure if I will be using the entire hub yet, as the strut opening is a bit too large I think. Possibly have to machine a billet carrier. More on that when I know for sure though!




Started measuring up bits for the rear of the car today. I have a few drawings. I will get the parts laser cut once I have decided for sure on the design. I keep looking at the amount of bloody underseal I need to remove!


The spare wheel well needs to be removed, so I am going to need a convincing boot floor panel borrowed from something. If anyone has any ideas. please give them to me!! Mondeo estate rear floor is looking promising at the minute.

They carry those space saver spare wheels. Although they are obviosuly piss poor, they require a tiny spare wheel well!

Mannion, Thats not a bad idea. The trouble seems to be actually getting a floor. I tried getting an Escort Cosworth boot floor yesterday, but it's been discontinued.

MotorcylcesFish, Thats an even better idea. Something definately to think about. I use Solvent based paint mate. Dupont do a whole range including water based paints. I do indeed do all the bodywork and paint myself. I cannot obide paying anybody to do something that I can do myself. It takes me longer for sure than someone who does it every day, but the end result is the same.

Well only a very slight update today, more decision making than anything else. Had some massive change arounds in my workshop. Trying to shift alot of stuff etc.

Got a decent 13 row oil cooler with an oil stat:



This should keep the oil temps under control.

I also plotted a speed to RPM diagram for my gear ratio's and diff ratio:



The rear end has pretty much been drawn up now in draft. I need some RS2000 4x4 rear hubs though. So if you know of one being broken, or one in your scrapyard, please, please give me a shout. I don't really want to pay the £150 a side from Ford!

Heeman, I'm not sure it's a bad thing to have that sort of speed limitation tbh mate. I rarely took it above the 100mph mark as it was. Can't see much point to be honest. I would rather have acceleration I think. Luckily I have the luxury of just changing the diff for a different one, should I so desire! I think it's a realistic rev limit mate, standard limit is 7000rpm. I'm hoping with the engine work I'm planning on doing, I should squeeze another 500rpm ideally. Not that it will regularly be there!

Heeman: We both calculated the top speed using gear/diff ratios and wheel size and i think its safe to say we were both a bit baffled about how 'low' it was considering its the theoretical speed and not even taking into consideration drag and tyre friction, its all down to the 5th gear ratio being quite low iirc.

These are the figures Steve gave me:

7000rpm
1 : 1 5th gear ratio
1 : 3.07 Diff ratio
Wheel Diameter 55cm (roughly 17" wheels and tyres)

I ended up with a top speed of 146.2mph

You'll probably notice that the 5th gear ratio looks a bit odd, i was expecting it to be about 1 : 1.5.

might be worth working out what revs you would need to reach to achive 60mph in 2nd gear, and weather your turbo would still be working affectively, pretty sure they would be.
just on 60 isnt an ideal place to be changing if your after acceleration figures. (i know your not building it for figures but always worth keeping in mind)
