PaulC, Thanks mate! :D Sorry about that, will try and slow down a bit in the future! I had a couple of weeks off work to try and get a large chunk done. Unfortunately that is coming to an end now. I have not managed to get half of what I wanted to get done, actually done. Ahh well, maybe another couple of weeks off next month!

Sphinx, Oh yeah!!

t2rst, Yeah good note mate! I thought that initially. My tunnel actually allows that area to be larger, it 'hugs' the gearox. Believe it or not, the standard pedal box fits with just that little room however! It's worth pointing out that the throttle pedal mounts above the wheel arch. Besides all that I will be making a custom pedal box to incorporate a bias bar! :D Thanks matey!

Todays update,

Pretty poor by the looks of the three photographs I have managed to remember to take!!

I started fabricating my new gearbox tunnel today. It's looking pretty good! I'm keeping it fairly close to the gearbox, to gain as much room as possible. I need to take some parts to an engineeering firm though, as I just can't get a decent radius on the steel. The bloke I know has some rollers, so they should do the job swimmingly!

My starter motor came earlier too, this meant I could get on with my engine mounts! It also meant however, I had to be doing some more measuring!!

Once measured up I managed to make this mount up:

Image

Image

And bolted up:

Image

I decided to come home then, as the other side will be a complete pain in the ass!! :(

Going to start to be scrabbling for parts before long, so I will be making a list of parts tonight. Something I have been putting off doing, as I'm sure I will cry!!

Thanks guys!!

Steve

Andi.B, Thanks mate! Will do mate, I may send you some to try actually. Would be interesting to see what you make of them, need to find a fiesta cradle though first.

Heeman, I have unfortunately matey! Going to need a couple of inches at least at the front.

Sphinx, Oh yes young Jedi, they will be tight! No tighter than the engine though, I'm sure!

Just off topic for a sec...

You people having MSN problems. Is it the same as what I've posted here: http://www.fiestaturbo.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=115833 ?

Back on topic...

I haven't really said anything since the first page, but I have been watching this and your progression on this has been crazy! I'm so impressed!

Just seeing the engine mocked in place starts to bring the reality of what this thing will be like when it's up and running. And I can't wait to see that :D

These are the posts I really love on FT... Proper beasty project ones :D

Acrebo, Cheers mate! Thanks alot. Yeah think it must be, damn thing!

Smo, Mine just wouldn't sign in mate, kept saying please try later. However, as I say my computer skills are somewhat to be desired! Thanks mate! I started holding the intercooler and the turbo's up today, just to check the space ect. It really started to hit home then!! :D Thanks for the comments mate! :)

Random_dav, Cheers mate! Hopefully you can video me doing some 0-60's next year at Trax! :D

Todays update,

Managed to complete the nearside mount today. It was far more difficult than the other side, due to the awkward angles involved. The oil filter is directly opposide where the engine mount would have gone.

Image

So here is the engine in it's final resting position. It's lovely and tight in there, with some slight movement!

Image

I was waiting for some steel to be rolled today, hoping that a friend can do me some in the morning, then I can get the gearbox tunnel completed in the morning.

I started having a look at how much room I had around the sides of the engine with the Turbochargers in place. Seems that I have more room than I was expecting, which is excellent! :D

Image

A quick snap of the pretruding engine! The studs on the centre of the engine will be removed!

Image

After some measurement of the bonnet, I's not too bad. The bonnet comes up in the centre naturally, and I have to lose only around 40mm. I'm thinking of a vent in the front of the bonnet, and no RS vents maybe. Partially RS1700T Lookalike.

After tomorrow it's back to work Monday morning so progress won't be as swift I'm afraid. I will do my best to keep the pace up though! :)

QuimNinja, Going to have to think of something! Not that important for a minute though, plenty more to think about! :)

Sphinx, That mount was a complete arse to make my friend. Complete and utter arse!

~nomad~ Cheers mate! :D

Rhinopower, That bad?! Welcome back by the way dude! :D

Adamski, Cheers man! :D

Rodge,  Yeah tell me about it!! I have to think 'small' all the time at the minute! In all serious though, I'm fairly confident about space. The main space concerns I have are air filters. The other down point I suppose, is when things need changing etc, in later life. :(

DaveB_lives, Cheers matey! :)

Todays update,

Well, my friend came through with the rolled pieces for my tunnel!

Image

Thankyou muchly Mr Fox. You will probably meet him sooner or later you lot, we are ZT'ing his FRST at the moment, watch this space!

These meant I could finish off my gearbox tunnel!

All the parts tacked in place,

Image

Completely welded,

Image

I then needed to think about my gear linkage then, it's far too long, in the Lincoln the engine is much further away than on my car!

Image

Shortened by approx 200mm, one part was steel, and the other alluminum.

Image

I was messing around with the next part of the tunnel earlier, just test fitting the gear linkage really too.

The gear selection is soooo precise it's unreal!

IS there any particular reason for you going to the local ice rink to carry out the modifications to the gear linkage?! :p :-? Think of all the stupid slop and play you'll get rid of by having such a short linkage compared to the 1.5m linkage in the Escort!! :D It's all looking fantastic! :aviator:

BTW good work on the N/S engine mount can see that it would have been a bit of a mare to do. Looks very long tho mate wont that make for a higher stress load on the actual mount???

Muz, Sleep is for girls, rarrr!! :D

Rs_Rawli, Wooo to you too!!

Heeman, LOL! Don't need an ice rink mate, it's like that on the floor atm! Definately mate, will be good to get a decent gearchange feel to it!

Rodge, Thanks matey! :D

Sphinx, Erm, Eh?! :bonkers:

Smo, Thanks mate  Not got any plans set in stone yet mate tbh. I have exchanged a few E-Mails with the gents from Emerald. They seem very decent and willing to help a great deal. They also have had experience with their ECU on the Duratec, albeit non turbo. However nothings set in stone until I get to that bit! :)

Random_dav, Bit of both mate. I'm going for full weld in roll cage, and a pair of buckets, but I can't stand no carpet etc! So to my taste! :)

Andy, That sounds like a plan mate, definately we'll do that. Your right on the engine mount, there will be extra stress on the three bolts on the engine. I was tempted, and maybe wtill will, to take an extra bar from the mount and go to the gearbox mounting points. I think it would probably be ok if it were the standard engine, but the power I'm planning will probably cause me some agro. Well think you just changed my mind for the better mate, added to list of things to do. Better safe than sorry! :)

Lol i think that would be for the best if it had a lil bit more bracing on that side just to reduce the stress on that one point... :oooh: :oooh:

Ok tis a deal then :D :D :D I'll let you know when that cradle is ready, ill get it all cleaned up and de-gunked for a b4 i send it.

Anyways nice work so far mate keep it up :) :) :)

Steve mate, I was thinking the same thing as Andy.B, its a lot of stress on one point becuase of the length of the mount. Have you thought of adding a brace in between the engine and the chassis leg? Kind of a triangular mount. :)
