Project Scort, V6 twin turbo. 'Rollin, Rollin' 30-12-07!!
Scort :Quite right mate. Think I heard talk a while ago of an RS2000 owner that was going to try using the EVO box.
That said, the EVO gearbox, and transfer box are not without faults. My friend who had the yellow one, I posted about in the General section a while ago, blew his transfer box to bits. Cost him £4500 or something daft.
Plus you would have to use the EVO rear diff, as the RS2000 one that would 'nearly fit' is a completely different ratio.
A good idea, in theory. I don't think I fancy it at the moment yet though. Maybe in Mk2 v6!
Steve
The guy with the RS2k running an Evo gearbox setup is still in the process of getting the engine setup and mapped I believe.
If I hear anything more about it I'll let you know
RS2k setup is good for up to about 250bhp or so, much about that and it does start to show signs of stress, and because the 4x4 transmission was deleted from Ford's spares stock it's hard to find one which hasn't led a full life (I've seen several 4x4's have transfer boxes go for various reasons, even something as simple as a vibrating from poorly replaced prop-shaft etc.)
EVO setup would be alot tougher - should take the torque that you're after.
If you're really going to go for it then replicate the Gartrac rear setup and get the whole lot tunnelled - might be more of a project than you anticipated though (so would take considerably more time!).
What about the fwd RS2000 gearbox? Will that mate up to the Duratec V6 lump?
Cheers,
Andy
Cheers,
Andy

That is interesting Andy, definately be interested in seeing how he gets on with that.
I have to admit I was unaware that the 4x4 drivetrain on the RS2k was good for up to 250bhp, I had always heard that its pretty much made of cheese.
As said though, certainly for this project it's definately going to be front wheel drive. Its just not going to be competative in a 4x4 class. In a FWD class, it should be fairly fast.
The RS2000 gearbox is different to the Duratec one. The Belhousing is completely different. The bellhousing side is the the side of the gearbox that is a different size for the transfer box. It could be machined out though I'm sure.
May look into this in more detail for Mk2, perhaps just RWD.
Thanks for the info mate,
Steve

agreed, many stadnard cars have killed em, and the standard 2k box had a very low torque rating, wouldnt trust this box with a frst engine running through it nm anythin else

Well, work is scheduled to start next weekend!
Got some 'slight' changes to the initial plan though. Hopefully it will make for a better vehicle though.
Basically, I have decided to go RWD. It's where the funs at! I miss my BMW for pure fun factor! I plan in the future to develop a higher powered engine than the one I am going to use this time, the Jaguar 3.0 Lump to be exact. This is going to be no good at all in a FWD car, let alone the planned 2.5 lump.
Getting quite excited at the fact I'm going to be chopping my S2 up next week!
Picked up earlier today:
Brand spanking new Getrag gearbox.
Gearbox showing bell housing,
Ford Lincoln location ring,
Ford Lincoln Mounts and Gear Linkage,
Rather Special Sump,
I have also aquired a Sierra Saphire Cosworth rear axle, which is fitted with an LSD. I'm planning on keeping the car with independant rear suspension, so no solid axle for me!
Roll on next weekend.......

This is definitely where the true fun is at Steve What on earth is that sump from? Does the pickup go right into the little reservoir on the right? If so....track ready beauty!! :D:D:D:D:D Get cracking matey, this is going to be immense

Rodge, Cheers mate!
FezzR, I'm still using the 2.5 with both turbo's for a while. Until I can prove the car and the engine, then spend some decent money developing it further.
Adamski, Thanks...I think!!
Heeman, I hope so mate, else it's one tidy S2 I'm about to cut up!! . That sump my friend is from a spanking new X-Type Jag, again never been fitted! That pickup pipe goes straight into the resovoir. Hopefully it will do the trick perfectly!

That's really quite interesting for a Jaguar part! Good find! Are you going to leave the 2.5 all pretty standard that? I'm sure with twin turbo's, that nice big intercooler and standard inlet you'll get respectable power. I say just get your pistons in, reassemble it and be done with this phase. Get the engine to fit, along with the transmission etc obviously, and save any further engine mods for the 3.0. What do you think? Surely the 2.5 will make 300bhp with those GT28Rs sneezing 10psi or so into it?

Definately, thats what I thought when I saw it! Bargain price of £15 too!
The 2.5 will have a bit of headwork, nothing major. It will have a full rebuild, my pistons, plus a custom inlet I'm in the process on and off of designing. . In the US there are a few people running 400bhp, on 'fairly' stock engines.
Definately a good idea mate, thats what I'm trying to achieve. Reliability is going to be the key to look at with this project. If I'm constantly repairing the 'engine' I won't be doing anything to the 3.0. The whole projects a bit of a gamble at the minute.
Time will tell though!

15 quid?! What a joke! Good work! :D Will you be imploying the fine-;ooking FezzR to do this mild headwork? Can the 2.5 head go onto the 3.0 or is it a different bag of spanners? Reliability rules. It'd be good to keep the compression ratio reasonably high (not sure what CR your pistons are meant to give, but using a slim head gasket as opposed to thick one if possible) so you can use fairly low boost to make the power. Keep the strain down on things plus improve off-boost and economy. Everyone's a winner! Now it's RWD though I'm sure it'll put 300bhp down admirably

How will you be fabricating the tunnel for the gearbox and propshaft?
I've borrowed one from an old mk5 cortina of all things, but i'm unsure whether to use it or not as its 20+ years old metal.
Good luck with everything

JIM (just to let you know my theory on the head work was even if i fook it only cost me £5 for a replacement identical engine, so thought i would see what could be done with the head.)
Steve - i really should get me ass in gear, think you need to work your ass off earn some money so you can have time off work to rip the S2 apart and ill bring the fez down

Forgot to share my eeeeenoooormous throttle body!
Heeman,
Definately matey! My pistons should bring the C/R downt to 8.1:1. Hopefully I will still feel some of the V6's natural bottom end grunt still!
The heads are completely different unfortunately.
Loving that video you sent me bud! Looks like fun!
Rodge,
I was initially planning on using the tunnel from a Sierra, the gearbox from the sierra is very old technology though, and has the size to match! I will probably cut the floor out, get the engine and gearbox hung, then fabricate a custom tunnel to fit snug round it.
FezzR,
I'm always off my ass trying to earn money, cheeky get!

Mmm Celebrations, what are they there for? Liking the fins even on the TB for cooling! That really is a large one! Thought that video might be a nice one for you to have...something to watch whenever you think maybe you can't be arsed. Good inspirational material 8.1:1 will be sweet!

to be honest steve only need to remove both front wing and the other sill and any large amounts of rust, (dont think there is any more)
after that its sand blasting as this will help prep for any of the welding
then surface prep and welding,
then spraying

I finally managed to get the car started today!
I got myself a sierra a couple of weeks back, I robbed a few select parts from it, mainly the front crossmember rack and hubs:
Finally she is back at the workshop, awaiting phase 2:
A few times I thought to myself 'What am I doing pulling apart a perfectly good working car!!'. Main concentration tomorrow is to pull out the engine, and measure up the front suspension setup. I'm planning on using the front crossmember from the sierra in order to make a mock up. I will be making the actual crossmember from aluminium.
Roll on tomorrow!

Belter! Know what you're saying about the shell, I thought the same for a few months...sod it though! The outcome will be worth it.
I am seriously suprised at the condition of that front assembly from the Sierra. I've seen Mk5 Fiesta running gear in worse nick that that!

Andyhardy: Does everyone not have a 4-poster?! I won't show you the other side then with the milling machine and lathe etc. Seat belt bolts are a royal pain in the ass, I have to agree!
