Re: project:UFO
today i got the car out so i could fit the bonnet and start on the wiring...
bonnet on...
the bonnet is just a skin so as i wanted to mount it on hinges i bonded a small section of box section aly and drilled and tapped it for the fixings...
as all the measurement were taken off another car for the bolt holes ive only tapped the aly for now...as the bonnet fitted perfectly i will now remove it and rivnut the aly for a better fixing...
also ive started on the wiring.as much of the wiring as possible will be hidden away so the main part of the loom which runs along the engine bay is now behind the dash.. the rest is coming through the wheel arches and out to where needed..
head light wiring..
it all comes through the bulk head above the wheel arch..
fan wiring..
where needed the wires have been extended, braided and heat shrinked ..
a few pics of how the car looks now..
and one of my boy in full on 'catalogue' posse

looking good mate, and the bench model
how does the bonnet secure down?, is there going to be some sort of seal along the bulkhead?
on second though imo the stripes ruin the theme a bit

aero catches to fit at the front and there will be a foam 'buffer' going at the back of the bonnet to stop the bloody thing rattling
stripes are staying

Re: project:UFO
The stripes are marmite I must say lol.
Personally, I dont like them from what I can see in the pics, I think they are just a bit... random i guess is the word. In person it might be a whole different ball game. If you like them, thats all that matters though at the end of the day.
I think they would work better if you could get them on the front and rear bumper too, but so they kinda fade away at the ends/before the corners.
A little like this:

Re: project:UFO
coming on really well mate, i was also going to ask about holding the bonnet down and i fear your going to say pins of some kind
what stuff did you use the bond the alloy box onto the bonnet skin mate?
also you going to be putting anything else on the skin to make it a bit more stiffer? dont want it doing something like this fiberglass one (i know yours is carbon) when when ya balls out round the track

Re: project:UFO
jony, yes mate is it, but thats a fiber glass bonnet on that mk2
should be fine then jon, i didnt think the carbon would flex any where near like fiberglass does.
shame you can have the bonnet all smooth with no catches though

Such a hardcore look but cant help but think it would look even better without the stripes - not my car though.

Coming from a guy with an ST with a big fat white stripe down the side
I think the stripes look great! Are you going to add the bumper stripes? Red or black? I think the front looks great without but the rear bumper stands out with the missing stripes.
Great work as always!
