I posted a message a bit of time ago asking where i can get a decent air-filter from for my mk3 1.4 si. Mathewhignett shed some light on this saying that pipercross apparently do one but asked me to ask you what its like and if its loud. Ive got a 3.5" remus back-box already on there so there's noise at the back end but crap at front. Any ideas m8?

To be honest m8, they're all pretty much of a muchness. I would recommend one with the biggest cone you can find, like a Pipercross foam cone one.
That said, I'm not really the ideal person to ask on this one
Also, extra front end noise will drive you mad after a while, so keep the standard airbox handy
Of course, I paid £30 for my induction kit, which has a foam Pipercross filter mounted in the bottom left of the bumper - not a lot of interior noise, a fair bit of outside noise, permanent cool airflow, stable running, and doesn't look too bad either

RAMAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get the one for the 1.6 si - it fits perfectly.
Not many do fit [ERRR] of the sir flow sensor next to the airbox, but the 1.4 si uses a similar inlet setup and therefopre has the same(ish) sensors!
Not cheap at 90 quid mind, but definately worth it! As Al said pretty noisy, but i lurvve the growl! RRRAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRR!

the prblem though with using air filters for different size engines, is that if say you brought the ramair one, it would have been designed to suck in more air than the air filter for the 1.4, however the chip wont aloow the extra air in, cos thats the type of things chips do, so you arent going to gain anything from it. I know kand n do a replacement panel filter for the 1.4si, but there the only 2 I know, and that took me ages to find these two out!

Matt, what you said above about the 1.6 cone don't make sense.....
The point of a cone is to let a greater amount of air in, therefore if it lets too much (?) in there it won't do any worse, only good!!
Fair enough the 1.4 may not ever pull in as much air as the filter will allow, but it don't matter. There are no cones available for the 1.4 and I was just saying that the ramair for the 1.6 fits perfectly, thats all!!
i.e. if you want to have a cone on your 1.4 you have to go for a 1.6 one!
