I have #2 of 2 ever fitted in the country, by none other than Mr.Ahmed Bayjoo Basically you'll need one Puma rear beam, one set of mods to get it to fit on the Mk3 Fiesta, one set of modified rear dampers, and one set of modified rear brake lines. Check out http://www.fiestas.mcmail.com/ab.html for more info.

The conversion transforms the handling and allows you to run std rear spring rates. You get zero body roll, Elise-like cornering and excellent road comfort!

James

What's so different about the puma beam then - and if it's so difficult who thought it would be a good idea?
Anybody got any other ideas for rear beam conversions that could help with handling?

Brendan

Weird - I thought the Zetec-S beam IS the Puma beam. Are you not thinking that the Puma beam is 40% stiffer than the std Fiesta one? I very much doubt that the Zetec-S beam is 40% stiffer than the Puma one.

Yep! Zetec-S beam 40% stiffer! Else I wouldnt be bothering.

Thats one of the main reasons the Zetec-S is much more stable at high speed, the Puma gets very tail twitchy at speed.

Front anti-roll bar 10% stiffer along with revised rack valving.

This was all in the Ford press release, or maybe it was a dealer guide - I canny remember but its documented somewhere

If you could dig out the article I'd be very interested. I've heard reports that the Zetec-S is a little twitchy round the lanes, due in part to the rear beam being 'too' stiff.

I suppose its down to personal preference really, some people drive very erratically hence twitchiness.

Driven smoothly at speed the S is far better than Puma

To be honest Sunny, the handling on mine is superb with the Puma beam and I've enjoyed it for a couple of years now! The Zetec-S may well be better when fitted to a FRST, but I reckon the improvements would be marginal, and not worth the already expensive modification costs. Also worth bearing in mind is that the front suspension plays a very important part in the overall handling package - try driving a Mk3 and Mk4 Fiesta back to back - the Mk4 handles like a gem!!

JJ & 2000_16V_TURBO - first things first.......
I love winding people up on here (it's funny - take it seriously but you gotta have a laugh aswell) - That was for the benifit of my previous post directed at JJ.
I am sure both your rear axle's are superb and both cars handle much better than the standard item. However on a serious note - I am sick and tired of saying this again and again - "do what you want to your car but if the driver's not that good at driving it really aint worth it!!!!" <---- Now lads, before someone jumps up and cries "Is he calling me a do-do driver!!!" and acts like a hero......this fact was not directed at you guys as I have not seen either of your driving (I am sure it's up to spec though - if not practice on a computer game first before attempting power slides etc - lol) and you would agree that I have a point.

Many thanks for your time boyz and gals for reading my humble post up to this stage without falling asleep

Sunny.

you should know!
It's this new UBB thingy - changes words for you automatically.
type 's**t' and it turns into 'do-do'.
Then type ashtray and it turns into 'ASHTRAY'!
Have you got the auto spelling on in Japaneese or sommin!

Sunny.
Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

Ahh, Sunny, ever the joker!! I -always- take your posts with a large pinch of salt! *LOL* As for handling, fair comment but just ask Ahmed next time you talk to him about the h-u-g-e difference with a Puma and std rear beam-ed car!! And come experience it for yourself in my own car!
