Back in 1999 i built a Quantum Saloon using an accident damaged Mk2 XR2. This was my daily driver for ten years until i sold it about a year ago.

I then bought a H4. Its based on a 1995 Fiesta Si.
When i bought it it had some nasty lexus lights, some 15" TSW alpines and some yellow dials. Oh yes and a 2.0 Zetec fitted by the previous owner Paul Baker, hence the 2.0 fitting guide on this site. Here are some pictures from just after i bought it. The only modification i had made was to fit the roll bar.

In the yast year quite a changes has taken place.

ST150 Front brakes fitted.
Gaz Coilovers fitted.
Area Six adustable arms fitted.
Rear Lexus lights replaced by standard Fiesta lights.
Dotz 17" alloys fitted.

Next day i had a bit of a run in with a big rock in the centre of the road.

Next i got a gearbox i had been given by a member of the Quantum Owners Club reconditioned. Work was carried out by the gearboxman. The new box gives me much better ratios for everyday driving. The diesel box i fitted was not the normal escort one but a fiesta courier version with longer gears and a lower diff. Although acceleration has been affected the car now divers much smoother and at far lower revs when cruising along the motorway. Second gear is now unbelieveable!

Finally after hobbling around on random spare wheels i bought some ST24 wheels and had them powder coated white. At the same time they were fitted with some Toyo Proxy TR-1's.

The car then went off to Center Gravity, for what can only be described as the most awesome suspension setup i have ever experienced. The cars handling is transformed. The only limitation as far as how fast the car will corner is the size of my nutsack.

The journey home i had a perminant grin on my face, I honestly could believe that corner weighting, camber adjustment, alignment, and rake could make such a missive difference. I would definetly recomend reading the Center Gravity website!!!! (I'm not part of this business, just a very happy customer!)

Final update brings us to today. New Cat fitted, smoked lights bought of Fezzyzetec fitted. Sorry about the quality of these pictures but i have a new camera and i'm still getting used to the setting. The camera shake is probably down to the fact that it was brass monkeys.

That's very... Yellow :Q :lol:

Car looks really nice, the smoked lights work really nice with the yellow, however I don't think white wheels do, I think a dark colour would have been better suited. Just my opinion though.

definitely don't see many of them around! Someone who travels from my local train station to London everyday has a white Quantum Saloon with some nasty blue tinted windows, I'll get pictures next time I see it!!

I admit i did think for quite a while about whether to go black or white on the wheels.
In the end white won.
The yellow and black theme tends to be a common one especially at kitcar shows.

The RS200's were stunning and as i can't see myself ever being able to afford a real one these are the next best option.

Thought i would update this as much has happened,

Since buying the car its been suffering with a lack of ability to keep water out. Basically the roof leaked so often i would get wet when driving and the rear and front footwells would also fill with water during rain showers. The carpet and sound deadening of the car had to be stripped out because it was getting damp to say the least.

Due to a lack of time and garage i arranged for the car to go to a fellow enthusiast to solve the water problem and then take car of a few other issues. Unfortunatley he had work on so he couldnt take delivery till January, so...

Back in December the car went up on axle stands,

The picture is taken out of my current daily driver. A 1.0L Nissan Micra Auto!

Finally got i back on it wheels late January, after some issues with seized calipers etc.

So finally in February it made it down the M6 for its refurb. First time in about two years its been indoors!

Solve water ingress
Refit carpet and sound deadening
Audio install
Respray (Kawasaki Green, Ultimate Lime Green, or a similar colour)
Then i have a box of other stuff to be fitted.

Nice project mate. Didnt even know these cars existed. Who made them originally then? Was it a specialist company or something?

Center Gravity is a top place my mates dad runs it. most of the time its full or porsches lol.. back to the car looks cool.. very differnet and never saw nor even heard of them b4.. :D

Thanks for the positive comments!

The company who made them were based in Stourbridge called Quantum Sports Cars. The company was sold and moved down south to Devon and still exists. Unfortunately the H4 (my model) was sold to a company in Iran and all the moulds were then lost in an earthquake!

The new company still make some of the other models however they focus on a lotus 7 inspired car.

Centre gravity is awesome, i cant recomend it enough, the change in my cars handling was amazing. At the start of the day my car had so much bump stear it was scary. At the end of the day i could comfortably hold 65mph round a mini round indefinately.

I like the back of the car too, i really want some quad conversion rear lights but they dont make them anymore. I know someone who is going to make me some though.

Ill keep updating, there are some big changes on the way

The aim of the rebuild was to make the car unique without making it look like it had a 90s restyle with wings and creases everywhere. Subtle was the idea.

bugger me that is proper spun me out, its hard to believe its a fiesta under there!

but you can see so many hints that it infact is

im surprised the chassis is strong enough to be made a convertible, goes to show ha, or were they strengthened in some way?


dont want to sound bad, but its weird looking, but only because i know its a fiesta, but after the rear lights were changed it lost its main give away

its a very good looking car and special


any idea how many were made?
whats one worth roughtly?

Thanks for the positive comments.

The chassis is 100% quantum its not fiesta at all. Kitcars have moved on a lot since the original 70's ones that most people think about. There are still some replicas that use chassis of other cars of similar lengths but most kitcars are a lot more advanced now.

Not sure on exact numbers but mine is an earlier one and its about number 70. I would guess there are less than 200.

As for worth its the same old story, its worth what someone is willing to pay and insured for a lot more .

If anyone has any wheel suggestions shout them out. That the one thing I want to change.

The challenge with wheels is that the arches can't just be pulled out like on a production car. I would love to try some cossy rims with 195/40/16 tyres on, just to see where they sit. Love soft lines to especially the 17" ones but again the 7.5J might cause issues. The ultimate choice would be some image rims

This is the press release stuff.

[i]The 2+2 gives all the fun of a traditional soft-top sports car, without compromising on the creature comforts or practicality of an everyday car. The soft-top is simple to use

and achieves superb protection from the elements, all year round. For added security, or severe winter use, the optional hard top can be fitted or removed in a few minutes.

Compared to similar sports convertibles of its size, the 2+2 is incredibly spacious. As the name suggests, the rear accomodation is ample for two small children, or makes for travelling for two, with somewhere for jackets or hand luggage - in addition, the boot is huge! The 2+2 was designed as a convertible in its own right, with full attention paid to the extra bodytub rigidity required of an open-topped car. The lightness of the glass reinforced plastic used throughout enables critical areas, such as the bulkhead, to be up to 10mm thick. Strength is therefore greatly increased, as doubling the thickness of a panel leads to an 8 times increase in stiffness.

For ease of build the 2+2 is based entirely upon a MK2 Ford Fiesta. Examples of the highest specification 1600cc XR2 CVH are readily available, but more owners are now fitting the newer Zetec engine.

The components all transfer to the Quantum shell to be used in the same way as they were on the donor Ford, even down to interior, dashboard, doorlock and bonnet catch.[/i]

The only Fiesta in there is the running gear (axels, suspension etc). Quantum basically built a chassis that would incorporate parts from another car (similar to early Lotus and TVR's).

The best way to describe it is to think of the Lotus 7 style kit cars (Robin Hood, Tiger, etc). They're a custom chassis and body but use Sierra running gear and engines. This is the same.

I love the transformation from the base to what it is now! Absolutely stunned at how it looks - normally I'm not a fan of custom fibreglass jobbies but that looks awesome! Well done!

You could say the same about the headlights and taillights...

The point it, it's its a Fiesta based kit car. It will use fiesta parts, but it isn't built from a fiesta.

From my understanding, as they were built in a factory, with VIN plates. They didn't need to be Q plated.

Same thing with Caterham's etc...

The chassis is quantum, so it has its own identity and not that of a Fiesta. Sure, it borrows running gear and other bits but it isn't a Fiesta at all.

Type the reg into the MID and I bet it won't say Ford Fiesta ;)
