Cannot see any reason for it not being legal. A company called Blue Sprint used to do them for Cossies (I have no contact details though). Be aware that it's very expensive to do it right, without the right (£1000 +) turbo you will be constantly needing to replace standard turbos.

I dont think it's illegal on road cars, but the noise will undoutably get you attention from plod.

Standard turbos don't last because of the fuel getting burnt in the exhaust housing, you need miram shafts etc to cope. I don't think there is a noise problem either if you've got a good exhaust system as basically antilag works by increasing closed throttle air flow, adding fuel to cope and retarding the spark to ignite the mix when the exhaust valves are open.

I doubt there's a law prohibiting the use of ALS on the roads, but you could get in some pretty sticky situations with it I'm sure! As said, you need a very expensive turbo with a Maram (not Miriam  :bonkers: ) shaft in it, standard turbo's just won't take the punishment. Nothing to do with the "turbo always spinning", it's down to the drastically increased operating temperatures. You've no doubt heard the popping and banging you get from rally cars and dragsters when the anti-lag's turned on, I can see the police not being very happy with that. It's a bit of a (very expensive) toy really, unless you plan on competing in events where tenths of a second are crucial :)

Just having a brief scout around, it seems mild ALS can be done on Escort Cosworths equipped with a P8 ECU for quite a bit less. They just need a piggyback board, 360 degree turbo, modified TB, ALS valve, an on/off switch and a gauge to watch your EGT's. This mild ALS isn't particularly extreme, but will make a difference. On idle you normally get 20-25 in of vacuum, but with the mild ALS you would be up to 0psi boost. The turbo should be ok with the milder system, provided you have a tip top 360 degree thrust bearing turbo. It seems the Maram turbos can be sourced for around 1,800.

I enjoy any excuse to learn more stuff! I knew there was more than just one way to run anti-lag, I didn't know the milder setups could do it without a Maram turbo though. No idea about Collins Motorsport chips I'm afraid, you're the second person to ask me about those today. The setup I've talked about above is using the Pectel P8 ECU...which I assume you could use on your car if you did a full EEC-IV to P8 conversion, but it would be some fairly major work involved. The exhaust pops would no doubt be quieter....it could sound like a dull sequence of backfires rather than the insane brown paper bag popping frenzy of full on ALS

really you need a complete ECU change to an ECU with Anit-lag feature,
aftermarket like Pectel, Autronics etc etc,

you can adjust the anti-lags "agreesiveness" just like the rest of the ecu by adjusting the amount of fuel to air and the timing,

im not sure what turbo Sunny was run but i know he was running very mild anti-lag for the sound rather than performance.
