question regarding insurance and NCB

Postby cheeseboy on Sun Sep 02, 2007 7:06 pm

OK can some 1 answer me this ok.. and tell me if this will work as im totally unsure.

Lets say for arguments sake i bought a ford KA and told the insurance company i had 6 years no Claims and then i paid for insurance etc

Lets say i never drove the ka or *scrapped it*

I then paid for the insurance for a year and the insurance company never request my noclaims letter , no chance of any one crashing into it becoz its up the drive for a year or its been totaslly scrapped

would i then be issued with a NCB of 7 years ? or would i be sussed out ??

seems a good idea .. and safe for every 1 [ERRR] i wouldnt be using the car any way

please leave ur opinions
if only life was as simple as u

I hve an insured car in Australia that I use when I go over there that's just raking up the NCB - so I don't see why not!

they will request for proof of ncb tho and if they have not received it within a few months they will alter the policy to say that you have no ncb and changed the policy price.

If you do actually have 6 years NCB then it's not a problem obviously. Some companies dont 'ask' for proof but they will check it with your previous insurers.
As for scrapping the car, thats just asking for trouble. But keeping it and not using it is fine.

as above, if you have 6 years yes you can do it, but why bother? 4/5- or 6 years (depending on insurance company it self) is classed as full ncb, so another year will make no difference, apart from the fact you have paid out to get another years ncb which will save you nothing in the long run

what i was trying to get at was . if i Had 0 NCB and just said i had 4 years NCB

my current insurers ( im insured on my dads ) states that they do not require NCB proof .

and if i recall correctly due to data protection act they can only hold records for a year . and a NCB certficate lasts for a year be4 it expires.

so for e.g.

if u had a 4 years NCb cert ... and u hadnt used it for 11 months .. then on the final 12 months u used it 2 insure a car .. by the time they get rnd 2 checking it it wouldnt be on ur previous insurance records n e way becoz thye have 2 remove ur information because your no longer on there insurance and data protection acts make em remove it.

There will be a history of your actual NCB if they look hard enough.....which they will becuase they will try anything to make you pay more.

If you have teh NCB then there is no problem but they will require you provide proof or at least provide them with your last insurers details so they can get proof.

If you don't have the NCB and are trying to pull a fast one technically it is insurance fraud but they would soon start chaing you for the NCB proof and if you didn't provide this they would either hike your premium or more likely just void and cancel the policy.

Exactly! We've all had to go through it. Bite the bullet and accrue your own NCB and not try to scam it.

i dunno who told you that b0llocks about data protection and a year, cos its horse $hit.
they can check back as far as they like, they could even check to see if you have had your own insurance........

i could phone a insurance company tomorrow that i havent phoned for over 2 years and they will still have my details of when i was insured with them and what my last quote was etc, and i havent been insured with that insurance company since i was 19/20 and im 27 now

you may get away with it,. but i dont fancy your chances when they ask for proof, or when you have a accident, remember, if you can think of a scam on a insurance company, then they have heard it $hit loads of times already

You have more no claims bonus that I have of years being alive    :bonkers:

As Vix said... why try and scam, just be honest. If the car is scrapped you'd have to tell the DVLA, or you'd be looking at a fine for that, if not then I don't see the point in this because as said, with 6 years already it's not like an extra year will make any difference :-?

You could insure the car for 7 years but not use it.

If you can think of a scam the insurers can too. Don't bother.
