questions about a 2.0 zetec (mondie) in a 1.8 escort (mk5)

Hi,

a mate of mine wants to put a 2.0i mondie engine into his 1.8 escort mk5.

Hé tried to figure out some things .. but still he's got some questions..

mechanicle there will be no problem.
the main problem will be the:
- what loom to use
- what ECU
- which e-dis to use (the ECU internal E-dis of the mondeo .. or the external E-dis of the escort)
- which injection and gas-throttle to use

for some example..

can you use the 1.8 loom.. the 1.8 e-dis and the 2.0 ECU and injection and gas-throttle ??

Thanx in advance

loom should be alright.. as for the e-dis bit... i used a internal edis in the fez... but i think it had an internal one anyhows to start with... best double check that one, as the ECU and loom might be effected... :-? as for the injection... on the fez u use the fiesta manifolds, but hte mondy injectors... :)

not sure if thats any help...

on reflection i dont think it is much help

The main problem is about the loom/ecu/e-dis combination..

as far as my info goes..

the mondeo uses a ECU-internal E-dis ..

the escort/fiesta 1.8 uses an external E-dis.. and thus a different loom..

but.. what system te use..??? so .. what loom.. ecu .. and e-dis

Yup you are spot on, all Mondeos used internal EDIS with the exception of the Automatic (but that's another story alltogether)

You will need to either modify your loom to match the correct pinouts on the Mondeo ECU (probably easiest) or alternatively you can see if you can get hold of the Mondy engine loom in it's entirety.

Either way you have some chopping and joining to do m8.

You should also watch out which year MOndy ECU you use later ones (from around 96 on) used internal PATS. ECUs have designation codes on them if you can get hold of a DEEP one this is deffo external PATS and seems to be the best to use.

if u have an early mk5 escort with external edis run a 130ps rs 1800 or 130 ps 3i ecu and throttle body
if u have the late internal type use the mondeo ecu and have a play with the wires :)
