Quicker acceleration?

Postby dave_si on Thu May 13, 2004 2:29 pm

i need something that will improve me 1.6si's acceleration. Ive had a look at induction kits, and booster valves. Probably will buy one at end of month, not sure wht to get though. How much more petrol will i use with the induction kit. say i put a 10er in,how many miles would i lose? also i want something that will sound nice. been looking at kn and pipercross, anyone had any experiences with these?
also does tht special power boost stuff tht u put in the engine actually work?

cheers Dave

do what i plan to do mate. dont bother touching the 'hunk o junk' and throw in a 2ltr when you can afford to. 130brake + sounds better than a whopping 2/3 brake off a K&N, and its 1/4 of the price of the new engine.

if you had a power boost valve and K&N, there £200 nicker gone! now that half the engine! :) hmm?

you d be very surprised how much it actually costs to insure a 2.0 Si  but yea at 17 it wud be a push but something to consider for the future rather than wasting money. By all means put a an exhuast sytem and ait filter on cause u will notice a slight difference and it will sound a hell of a lot better, just dont expect massive gains.

2.0L engine from a Mondeo is only 1 group higher on insurance than the 1.6si group you are in now

So it would cost you very little more.

Keep the standard airbox and put in a K&N panel filter, that way you might actually get better airflow without the power losses associated with drawing in hot air from the engine bay

Just my 2 pence :bonkers:

In short, not much.

And what Snyx said is very true.
A proper induction kit like Piper X or K&N 57i = no good for cold start :(
A panel filter on the other hand is still good for cold start, while allowing more air flow.

Insurance depends on which company you are with, apparently. For a 2.0L in an Si, it could be group 9 and it could be group 20. Try HIC insurance first.

Look here for what you need for a transplant
http://st2000.s5.com/ff3engineswaps.html

Better to get someone (like MMOgenius) to do it for you if you don't have the tools/time/space/confidence for about 350 to 450 pounds.

About 1.8, why not a 2.0? They would be of the same money anyway...

And what do you mean, you will wear glasses when you're 18? :D

Depends what car you get the 1800 from I guess, RS1800 might be a "bit" pricey (grp 14/15?), escort or mondy 1800 might not...
