Rasing the rev limit?

Postby volvia99 on Fri Aug 01, 2003 7:19 pm

I talked to a Swedish engine tuner and he said it was possible to raise the rev limit simpy by soldering in a new crystal with a 10% higher clock frequency in the ecu? Anyone tried this??

Hi m8, don't know wether thats a good idea, as the rev limiter is there to stop you over revving your engine and doing internal damage. Unless of course your engine has been built to cope with the extra pressure.

I talked to the guy who helped me with my head, I would be ok to go to at least 8000 RPM. Titanium coated valves and lifters

8000 RPM, i think it can rev that high if work is done to the engine. Don't think they will as standard.

According to him 8000 RPM was on a standard bottom end, but using ARP con rod bolts, and those mod i mentioned earlier. I do trust him since he buildin enginge for Formula Ford in Scandinavia.

Im amatuer guessing that it's better to hav the ECU programmed to overide the standard limit so the fueling, timing, etc. will be correct for the extra revs the standard ECU wont be programmed 4.

I know that a performance ECU chip allows u to raise the rev limit in a Clio Williams/16v so would imagine the EMS r similar.
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Dont know how it works on Renault, but with a unichip you cant raise the rev limit.

the one thing to consider is "is it gonna gain any power" if u get to th limiter and its still pulling hard then i would suggest a descent chip/ecu management to raise the limiter
