Rattys Mk5 RS 2000
Well, another car
Right, story is that this was being sold as spares or repairs by a mate of mine. Up until last month he has been using it as his daily for the past 3 years.
It does need some bodywork and he was fitting new rear brakes, broke the rear flexi and said he cant be arsed to fix it. All it needs is a new flexi and metal brake pipe to the rear load sensing valve and a pair of track rod ends( supplied with it) and its good for MOT.
The first idea was to do a mk5 front end conversion on the estate and RS engine swap and break it, but the missus persuaded me to restore it and daily it, and i aint gonna argue!
So i had a quick look round it today and bodywise it needs a fuelcap repair panel (also supplied) rear arches tidying up, nearside door bottom repairing and a few little bits here and there. All can be done by my painter for around 500 notes mates rates. So for around a grand, i should have a nice usable RS2.
Also the whole underside has been painted whit at some point in its life and its flakey and a bit surface rusty, so i'll just spray the whole underbody with underseal.
It aint gonna be a quick job, as the bus has a fresh 12 month MOT on so when the RS is finished i can retire the bus(maybe)
A quick spec list:
17 inch OZ super T's (badly refurbed but good tyres)
Half tint rear lights
Tinted repeaters
Magnex( i think) cat back
Pipercross cone filter to be replaced with a standard airbox(supplied)
New Discs, pads and calipers all round.
New lower arms.
Anyways, a few pics:
The bad bits
The rear badges were doing my funlumps in so i had to move them
All comments welcome

dont look to bad at all really, and considering its rusted on the commo areas, i would expect more rust for its age, so as said, dont look bad at all mate

Lovely little motor fella. I got a set of diamond cuts hanging around well 2 sets actually as I have just bought another set on ebay which are getting collected this week as they are in portsmouth and instead of me doing a road trip on saturday a friend who is working close is picking them up friday. From the photos off gaybay they look straight and just need a polish. If you are interested give me a shout and I will get some pics up of them I don't want stupid money for them

Re: Rattys Mk5 RS 2000
Update time. I had a few hours at the weekend on the RS.
First off i got rid of the gay blue pipes under the bonnet.
Also ive had loads of trouble finding some standard rear brake hoses for it. Tried 3 different motor factors and they was all completely wrong.
But i had some v6 Mondeo front ones kicking about at work, and they were perfect length with the correct mounting point, just had a female end where the knackered Goodridge hoses were male ends, so i just made some copper pipes up from the load sensing valve with the correct ends to join to the mondeo hoses.
Then just needed to dremmel out the mounting lugs to accept the bigger female end. Job done.
Then i panted up the new calipers, fitted the new brakes, adjusted up the hand brake shoes and bled up.
Heres some pics:
Perfect fit!
Wanky old pipe next to my shiney new one
All done, and an obliatory job done 'jayrs' smoke pic!
Excuse the massive hair, it was windy

Re: Rattys Mk5 RS 2000
Another update time.
I had a few hours pissing about on it yesterday.
First off cleaned the osr inner arch up and painted stuff up and made a new brake pipe, i wasnt happy with the s**t looking one on it.
Then removed the knackered rear splitter and bodged it together. the centre had been cut for a towbar too
You can see the join/smooth filler from this angle, but when its on the floor you barely notice it
Then gave the arch a de rust and a beating into shape and sone zinc primer.
Then a job well done Jayrs smoke
