Update - Fitted my new suspension the other day and the difference is amazing. She handles soo much better now. I can feel the limits alot better now than before.

I started with the dampers set 6 notches off the softest setting and it was quite nice and could tell a nice difference. Then I turned thwem another 6 notches and then another 4 making it half way. Its such a joy to drive now and I have totally fallen in love with my car again. Just want some power now lol.

Its only lowered the car by 35mm so it still goes over speed bumps ect and has no bottoming out problems which I like. I'd probably prefere the wheels to be a little more in the arches especially at the back but this way I get the best of both worlds if you knwo what I mean.

Hears some pics.

Yes its 35mm lol. Would probably look a little meaner if it was 50mm but the handling is awesome and nice and stiff anyways and wouldn't want it any lower because of the driving I do and speed bumps round me. Don't forget it needs a little time to settle yet too :)

Typical!!!!!

When I changed my suspension I decided not to bother with new top mounts and guess what?? Yes thats right one of them needs replacing

I noticed that one of me front wheels looked like it was running a little more camber than the other one and after removing the drivers side hub I noticed that the thrust bearing has totally gone and the strut just wiggles around in it. So off to ford for a new one and back into the garage for some more fun with my spring compressors :x

Looks much better lowered Ollie, you can just tell its been lowered by comparing the pics. Its amazing just how much of a difference lowering makes to looks and handling. Bad news on the top mount!

pimp - Well I didn't want to make the ride too harsh will coilovers as its our family car and the set I have now is a great compromise. Still quite comfortable and handles like a dream :). My next car will be LOW and HARD as thats going to be my toy and then me and the missis will have this as the family car/runabout.

The springs have settled down a bit now and the ride is a little less harsh and you can see its a little lower too. Will get some piccys up when it had a wash as its a damn state atm lol.

Agggh stupid bloody car!!!!

Now I have a cracked exhaust manifold and need a new tyre aswell as a new top mount and rear drums lol. I think it will be a day in the garage next week to get the old manifold back on whilst that gets welded.

I already have the new shoes and then just need to get a new top mount on and a new tyre fitted, at which time I will get my tracking done again as have lowered it slightly an wouldn't be surprised if its slightly out.

Yea lol.

I changed the manifold yesterday so sounds good again. I am off in the RAF as a technician in January. So when I have learned to weld, I will repair that manifold and put it back on :)

Now I just need to fit my new brake shoes and replace the thrust bearing in that top mount and its all good again.

Postby niracka on Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:50 pm

Well.. I'v just fitted a new top mount, which has sorted the excessive negetive camber on the drivers side front and eliminated the horrible creeking noise when steering.

Also got a pair of Uniroyal rainsport 1's on the front and had the tracking done and the grip is great now. Such an improvement on the old tyres and I'd go as far as saying they are better than the Dunlop sp maxx's I used to have on the front which are now on the back. And can't go wrong for £75 a piece in a 215/40/R17.

I used to have those cheap ass Scudo Stunners on the car which it had when I got it. Every single one of them has died an early death. They are the worst tyre I have ever had!!!. The first went a few months after getting the car as It was caught on a curb on thye drive at my mates house. The second had a big tear in the tread. The third had a bulge in the sidewall and the fourth had cracked all down the inside edge right to the metal thread and what is really worrying is that none of them had got anywear near the end of their tread. So God only knows what could have happened had I not had them changed.

Next on the list is to get the rear shoes changed when I find time, colourcode the side strips and get a spoiler on her. Then I think I will be happy with this car for a while.

I'm off in the RAF a week today so you guys probably wont hear from me very often but I'l try and get online at the weekends when I'm home. Also with the extra money I'l be on soon I should be on the look out for a second car and with a but of luck it will be a frst (fingers crossed). :Q

Little update: I have noticed one of my front wheels has been running on a massive amount of negative camber. A closer inspection has revealed that my front OS shock is bent in the body where is meets the hub (God knows how thats happened) so need to get that sent off to GAZ to be repaired.

Am just in the process of getting a bluefin and a spoiler and hopefully will be colourcoding those side strips soon.

I'v not been on here for ages as I'v just done my basic training for the RAF which has taken all my time up. But now thats done I'v got a little more freedom and money to play with my car. Should be a getting a fiesta rs turbo soon too as my toy along side this focus as the family car/runabout

Looks very clean mate! only thing in my opinion is it does need lowering a fraction more or as already said take a pic on level ground! will make the diffrence probably!

What manifold is that by the way?

An OBX manifold mate.

Its not on the atm thaugh as it is cracked. Going to repair it in a few months thaugh as I am doing a welding course as part of my new job :D

I agree about the ride height but its already impossible to get my trolly jack under it and I use the car on country roads and over speed bumps all the time. Any lower would just not be practical for me unfortunatly. Will be taking the frst quite low thaugh when I get that.

Little update.

I put my bluefin on last night. I wan't expecting too much from it to be honest but I am pleasently surprised.

The dodgy missfire on full load between 1 and 2k has gone, it runs smoother, has better response and power delivery, noticably more torque, more at top end and instead of tailing off at 5750 it keeps on going untill 6500 :Q.

The shock still needs sending off for a service but it will just have to wait for a few more weeks untill I have the money
