Well I drove nearly 500 miles today to meet bernard and pick up the new exhaust for my car. An OBX manifold and de-cat pipe and a longlife stainless system which I will fit to my car in the next few days. I just need to get hold of some gaskets from fords and a few bolts.

The drive down was great. Clear roads all the way there and only one golf tried to kill me

It never sieces to amaze me that no matter how much you talk to someone on this website or on the phone. Its totally wierd when you actually meet them lol.
We talked, we drank coffee. It was cool. I just wish the coffee was beer lol.

Big thanks to sam for the bits and for making the drive to meet me.

I will update the thread with some pics ect when i get it all bolted up.

Postby niracka on Wed Jan 09, 2008 11:08 pm

Well I got the car up on the stands today and the rust on my cat to flexi flange was a real state and the same with flexi to middle section. I then had a look at my new cat back and noticed the studs werent in the best shape as bernard seems to have ground the nuts off to get it off his car  lol

I'm going to leave it a few days so that I can get some new studs and bolts for the flexi and cat back and put some new bolts on the manifold to cat flange. If I were to try anf fit it today I would almost certainly have ended up with 4 unusable studs with one or more snapped and nothing to replace them with. Leaving me with an undrivab;e foci.

Oh well a minor setback. I'l get pics up when I get to work :)

Nah man don't worry about it. I thaught I'd have to at leaset re-stud the flexi

I'v got to grind the ones of my flexi to get the cat off anyways as they are rotten to hell so i'l be drilling those out and using nuts and bolts. Will be drilling the old studs out of the exhaust tonight.

Will get some pics up soon

Well I ground the existing studs off my new exhaust last night and began drilling them out.

Everything was going fine untill I started drilling. I didn't have a variable speed drill at the time so It was a case of using on and off and as most of you know this isn't particularly good when trying to drill through metal. The bits I was using didn't last very long and I ended up having to leave it untill tomorrow. I'l be using a far better drill and I now have some bits for cutting steel so shouldn't be a problem now :)

Well I finally managed to get my new exhaust system on today after alot of hard work and messing around drilling out studs and grinding pipes up lol.

It sounds great and I'v noticed a nice improvement in throttle responce and she revs alot more freely now the cat is gone

I will get some pics and sounds clips up asap.

Cool stuff, Ollie :D

I ran my 1.8 on a 4-2-1 (which removed the cat at the same time) for a while, and it did make a noticeable improvement too :) Improved response (very noticeable!) and a nice increase in low down torque, although I should imagine you'd notice your increases more at the top end what with it being a 4-1?

Well just got my service book stamped by kwikfit with an oil change.

Its so annoying paying £25 for an oil and filter change when they use the cheapest oil on the market and I could do it myself with a top oil like gtx for the same money. All this doesn't seem worth it for a poxy stamp. In the future I will buy a bottle of best oil and a filter and change it myself with all the usual checks and get my mate to stamp the book from the local garage. Everytime I use quikfit I get the impression you really can beat a quikfit fitter

I'v also checked all my breaks and suspension and everything is looking good so all I need is a new tyre, leads and a coilpack and all is good again Smile

Exactly. Its just stupid how a simple little stamp can make your car worth more. I can do pretty much all the work myself and probably to a better standard than half of the service places as its my car and I have a passion for making it perfect rather than just wanting to get it done and go home.

I'v got a mate who works at a local garage. So I think in future I will chuck him a tener to stamp my book. Which I wish I'd done in the first place now :(

lil update

I have put a new coilpck and leads on but its still misfiring at 1500rpm - 2000rpm.

I am getting a little worried because I have noticed there is smoke when it misses and also when I start it up at first there is a liquid coming from the exhaust but i can't tell what it is. There is surely no way its running really really rich or something is there???

Someone please help me as I really want to sort this problem asap before it gets worse.

Well I took the front bump strips off the car today to do a bit of colour coding. I was a little dubiouse about trying it myself for a while as I dont want to mess up a fairly new car but hey, if I mess it up I can just take it to the body shop. besides I'v done a little spraying recently and am confident that I can produce the goods :D

After much messing around with a pair of pliers under the front of the car I realised they pop out quite easily lol.

started sanding with 800grit to take off the orange peel effect and then gave first coat of plastic primer. I'l get some piccys up when i'v rubbed down and got some more primer on.

Not at all worried about water now its just condensation.

Lil update on the colour coding side of things.

Heres some piccys of my colour coding progress. Sorry about the quality of some as I was using the phone cam.

Firstly the bump strip (still with orange peel effect)

Well I'v just finnished laquering my strips and so far I am really happy with the finnish on them. However I wont know exactly how good they look until the laquer has hardened properly.

Here are some pics

After paint waiting for rubbing down and laquer.

I can't wait to get them back on the car and get some piccys. Should make such a difference.

Lil update

I put my bump strips on and they look awesome. The light in the pics makes them look slightly off colour but I will get some better pics up soon when I'v got time.

I'm really happy with the results so next week I'm going to do the rear strips.

I am just a little worried about doing the sides as I dont want to do them on the car because I wont be able to get them to a decent standard. However I dont really want to take them off as I may not be able to get them back on streight or I may damage them. This may be a bodyshop job

I believe the side strips are stuck down with double sided sticky tape (bit stroner than nomal stuff lol)

I was thinking about just removing them but I think the car may look a little funny without them on. May have a look when I take them off one at the scrappy to see how it is without them and get some pics up for second oppinions.

Re: My 1.8 focus MP3 - passed MOT!!!!!!

Postby niracka on Sun Aug 24, 2008 11:31 pm

Just had the MOT done and she sailed through. The tester actualkly comented on how clean she was too :Q (which i was surprised about because its hardly an old car or anything)

I had to put my CAT back on to pass the emissions and its actually made quite a difference to low down torque but not taken a noticable amout of top end power away. She pulls off the line so much better with a combination of the system, manifold and cat. So I think I will be leaving it on. Its also a little less droney on the motorways and hence better al round for everyday driving and I would expect even a little better on fuel being as I dont have to use much to get her going now.

The next thing to do is get the rest of the colour-coding done so I will be getting some paint soon and getting that done. Aswell as hopefully shocks and springs to lower by 50mm.

Will get some piccys up of how she stands now within the next few days.

The side strips cant be removed without doing some bodywork, they have locating pegs on the back which slot into holes in the side of the car.
I have a spare set of side strips in the garage from when I had my Focus Mp3, I got a spare set painted then then swapped them over.
Sold the car now so these are no use to me anymore, can have them for £20 if you want, I'll even throw in a tailgate handle if its any good to you.

Clark - I just used halfords stuff mate. I was really surprised at the colour match to be honest. I think as its a fairly new car its easyer for them to get right than the older models.

Max - I loved that car man. I can't believe its gone. Hope she's gone to a new home??? So what are your plans now?
