Rear discs

Postby Turboboy67 on Wed Jun 25, 2008 12:12 am

Hopefully in the correct forum

What are peoples experiances with a rear disc set up?

I'm considering putting them on my track car over the Winter.

I know that a brake bias valve is a good idea, but does it really make that much difference ?

My brakes on the FRST are standard rear drums (but everything brand new  ) and Cosworth set up on the front with braided lines, 5.1 fluid and they are stunning.

I'm just wondering if it really is worth ditching the drums for discs.

:aviator:

seems pointless to me if the brakes work perfectly as they are...

my mate done this conversion to his S2, i s**t myself when he breaks hard, the back end swaps lanes!
id rather spend the extra money sorting out the fronts :)

i am putting RS2000 discs on the track fiesta, got a adjustable bias valve just incase.
put the same set up on Martins Rs2000 escort van with no bias valve, doesn't swap ends or lock up befor the front wheels. But it is a heavey van not a light track fiesta

thats because the rears are not correctly matched in terms of efficency of braking front to rear... the back are out bracking the front so this will happen.

if the front and rears are matched effectively a disk setup is alot better in terms of performance and also resistance to fade etc due to better thermal transfer between the brakes and the surroundings due to not being shut into a big lump of metal.

true but still on braking even gently round a bend because the back end is so light, its gona be hard not to loose control of the rear. each to their own views end of the day :) id still stick with drums
