Removing CAT worth it?

Postby unknown_user on Sun Jul 11, 2004 12:09 pm

Right I have a full s/s power flow from the cat back... Was wondering if it was worth taking the cat off? Is it noticeable or not worth the hassle?

I had the ideal of getting an old cat and stripping it out and welding a bit of pipe thru it? As I have seen fake cats being sold...

I have got an old cat which I have got rid of the ceramic inside, I haven't put in on yet but it will hopefully be done tomorrow!

I expect it to release abit more bhp, though I am not expecting alot!

I brought a rusty RS1800 to strip for the engine and used the cat off of that!

You wanna keep an eye out for someone breaking a car like yours and buy theirs!

I was told that it should also make the car a little louder!

I have choosen to de-cat this way as it will look like I have a cat from the outside and plus it's a cheaper way of doing it as de-cat are quite expensive!

Yeah exactly! if they decided to do a road side emissions test (this has been known) when it fails they can see there is a cat on there so you can just say it must of broken! :D

Depends, it doesnt really make that much difference on a N/A engine. You'd be better just getting a performance CAT.

Turbocharged car is another matter, ditch it!!

The way I look at it is that I haven't paid anything for it, it will only cost me the fitting, so if it doesn't do anything, my real cat can go back on!

I am just curious to see what happens!
