Removing Middle Box

Postby xander7 on Mon Mar 08, 2004 7:21 pm

would there be any legality issues if you remove the middle box and replace it with a straight through section ?

just thinking out loud really, got a s/s mongoose system on the Si, wondered if it was legal (noise and MOT wise) to remove the middle box and have a s/s straight thru piece ?

comments welcome :)

cool, i've only recently bought the system, and i am really suprised how quiet it is, probably down to the fact the engine is sooo damn quiet !!

i like loudness, but nothing OTT, so a trip to powerflow might be in order !!

you mean a cat back pipe basically?

i had the middle box removed, and left cat in on my powerflow exhaust...

it was loud as

but i loved it, and goin back to get a cat back pipe onto my backbox soon!!!

£100 for the pipe and fitting

although if you do decat, and leave middle box in, you still get the loudness, and more performance, just means the hassle of puttin it in for the mot.

surely by removing ur middle silencer u will lose compression in ur engine making it slower!!!!!!! bad move if u ask me. yeah it will make it louder!!!!! but do u realy wanna go slower?

ur best bet wud prob be to remove ur cat and keep ur 2 silencer boxes. thats wot im gonna do.

ask powerflow they will know.

i bought a full asley system for my 16v 2i(cat back) and got the mid silencer cut out and then two flat plates welded on to the mid section were the silencer was then a straight pipe with flat bits at the end goes in with som gaskets(corn flakes packet) an got the silcer welded to adapt so if it fails for being too loud then i can just change it in 15mins cost 120 wasa gonna cost 40 for just cuttoing the mid silencer out and welded
