Removing the zetec lump without the box.

Ive got to do it soon to showhorn the 2 liter into the fez bay..

but i dont want to remove the driveshafts and everything, ide like to leave the gearbox in....

Is it a real tight squeeze, and should i leave the crankshaft pully till the engines mounted to the bellhousing before i fit it.

i still have to remove the blown 1600 bottom end and get the scavenge pipe, sump and flywheel, oh and the CPS housing.

drop the box mate its the easiest way all you need to do to remove the drive shafts is cut the clips on the box end cv boots undo the pich bolt at the bottom of the hub and pull out and the spider will come straight out .

well ill think about it.. i really dont want to its to much messing about.

my plan was to lower it in, mate it to the bellhousing with just the front alt bracket/mount, bolt it up to the housing, bolt the rear bracket to take the weight.. then i can return the hoist to the hire company and put the rest together once its gone.

i wonder if anyone else on here has done it?

mate just take out the box

it will b so much eaiser. keep the driveshafts in at the hub end and just pull them out of the gearbox

u say your going to shoehorn the 2.0 in well with the gearbox in it will b a fcukin nightmare

gear selector can b a bot of a pain but just make sure u have loads of wd40 on it

good luck

i looked at your site mate, been on there before actually..

but it doesent really explain much about removing the engine and not the box it just follows the line of removing the gearbox first and then removing the engine.

its helpful.. but it does still involve the gearbox.

ill stick to my original plan and once its mated to the bellhousing, lower it down and fit/tighten the crank pulley, rais it up and continue with the rest.

That guide was written by me and I removed my old 1.6 zetec with the gearbox in place. There is no mention of removing the gearbox and you can even see in the pics - The section on 'Gearbox removal' actually relates to separating it from the engine where you will need to 'drop' the gearbox cradle so you can tilt the 'box so you can get the engine out without cataching the crankpully on the inner wing - Trust me, this is what your after.

Here a direct link: http://www.teamford.co.uk/ZetecEngineremoval.htm
Oh and check the two pics out at the bottom as it may help
