restore time!! *UPDATE possibly Astalavista?!*
FINALLY, had the courage to let someone restore my pride and joy. took it to the garage to start on it earlier today.
just took a quick pic, as you can see its a bit pinky and faded badly
the petrol cap area is falling apart! well it looked ok until the sprayer stuck his key through it!
got a couple of parts that needed quite a bit of attention due to rust but rest of body is pretty sound. loads of those poxy door dents are finally goiong to dissappear.
it hasnt seen paint from new (apart from the orange drivers door )so i thought it was time to freshen it up ready for show season.
more pics tomorrow after ive stripped more of it.
ill be visiting regularly to take pics of the updates to post on here

Wow! Nice to see Gav! Am very envious of you, mine hasn't had paint from new either, and each year shows more blemishes that make me think "This year I'll get it sprayed"...just never happens! Keep the pics coming, and make them better quality than that first one!

Nice one Gav, sorry I didn't have more time to do this but you can probably see my project is moving slowly enough as it is
Will look forward to seeing it done, the average red Turbo looks good enough let alone one that's been freshly sprayed!

rear arch now stripped ready to cut out the petrol cap section
rust on the arch wasnt as bad as i thought but still parts getting cut out and replaced.
Also took out the front and rear screens today, the front cracked (bravo pete!! ) i had a spare just incase anyway
so what a nice birthday present it was for me today to see the car looks even more f**cked up and broken window!

Fook, looking nasty there Gav! Good job it's all getting seen to! Fair number of marks down the side too eh? It's gonna be lovely getting it back afterwards I have two or three upward dings in my bonnet now from hose clips and other things I see you have one or two circled too...how nice to get all the small imperfections tweaked out...you baxtered!! Would I be right to say happy birthday too?

I wouldn't worry about the front screen Gav, it's very very hard to get them out without cracking, I just see it as an opportunity to replace them with something newer/better (Pilkington etc.).
Looking good though mate, the rust on the petrol cap looks about the same as mine, it hasn't spread too much to the rear arch (although alot of people say if it's got that bad at the filler cap it's worse at the arch, it's not necessarily true in my experience).
Can't wait to see the work done and it being put back together, as I'm sure you can't either.

thanks chaps
the sprayer Theo wants to cover the whole rear panel (behind the rear bumper) with stone chip spray whats peoples views on that? stops corrosion buts it in black and its not a smooth finish. theres no rust there anyway but worried if it ever come to selling it the buyer would think im tryed to cover somethiung up. is it worth it or leave it as it is because i prefer that anyway.
this is the biggest problem with mk3's!!
this is the part u cant see, from behind the panel
and will be replaced by i new one! will be treated so the same dont happen again in 15yrs

I say stone chip it all, very solid protection, and if the next owner has any idea about cars, he'll listen to you when you say you wanted to protect it all as much as possible. Nice to see all that rot being pulled out!
