rev counter with megasquirt management and speedo wiring
I have fitted an megasquirt management on my rs1800
Only the last hurdle is get the rev counter working again.
who knows which color i need to use to connect it to my megasquirt ecu ( not using edis4 anymore )?
also on the gearbox where the speedo cable is connected, i have 3 wires
black
yellow
brown = ground
the yellow one changes to a brown/white in the connector
Who can tell me what it's for ?

what version board of megasquirt you using?? as ther is a pin for tacho on there
as for the 3 wires on the gearbox speedo, it is a speed sensor which is used by the stock ecu, also if you wanted to fit a mk5 clock you can wire that to the speedo

Re: rev counter with megasquirt management and speedo wiring
Im using a vems (megasquirt 3 ) system.
I have used the tacho wire from the ecu to get it running.
So can i ditch the 3 wire on the gearbox ?

Yea you don't need to wire it in...
May I be cheeky and ask for your base map if you have one available. I am going to be running gsxr1000 itbs on my zetec with the microsquirt module and I am a little confused on setting up from scratch

Could you send me a pm with your email?
I have a base map, but im not using carbs etc.
Also it has some fueling problems.
Don't know if you can use it
How did you wire it up? Fully sequential ? Idle valve

Re: rev counter with megasquirt management and speedo wiring
Have you managed to get the tacho working accurately from the MS ecu? I found when using the stock dials I'm about 20+% higher than the actual RPM. I'm using one of the spare outputs from the MS ECU, but am currently switching to an aftermarket dash setup as it has been annoying the hell out of me.
i.e 1100 rpm actual is about 1300 indicated but 3500 rpm actual is about 4500 rpm indicated. Main issue is 6500 is off the scale where the RPM really matters.
Made no difference switching the settings between 1 or 2 cycles per rotation.
The VSS you mentioned would only have been used by the stock ECU. MS can use the input from it, but wouldn't really be that useful, unless you want to run lower boost in lower gears and your boost solenoid is ECU controlled.
I'd keep a length of the 3 VSS wires available rather than cutting off at base, or just remove the sensor itself and connect the cable without it, in case you want to run an aftermarket speedo at a later date.
Cheers,
Si

Re: rev counter with megasquirt management and speedo wiring
Cheers mate.
Then i will remove the cable from the speedo connector.
I havnt got any problems with my rpm and dails. Working like a charm.
Only problem is that my engine isn't running at his best.
Just doing a lousy 142 bhp instead of the 160/170 bhp expected
