Revs causing a squeeling interference through speakers???

Postby djnathand on Fri Oct 31, 2008 6:01 pm

Bought a fusion sub and amp package and a fusion 6x9, components and amp package, set it all up and was ok (although it did sound piss poor)...

Thought I'd hide all the cables etc today, now the revs are causing and squeeling interference... Any idea why this could be?

Cheers for any help!

your picking up interference from somewhere...did it sound ok (as in no interference) before the cables were tucked away? if so then route the cables differently...are the power cables an RCA's run together? if so, seperate them...run power down one side and rca's the other...might also be worth changing your earth point for the amp and see if that helps...it needs to be as solid as possible and not on a rear light bolt for example

My mates car used to do this too.

As above he had to reroot some of sound system wiring, and that stop it :)

My MK3 did this even with the RCA cables and power cables on seperate sides of the car. Apparently I had to get an isolator, but part exd the car shortly afterwards.

there would have been a floating earth in the car somewhere...no necessarily anything to do with the audio system! Ive actually had a problem with interference which was tracked down to a faulty headlight connector!! :o :o

There was no interferance before I tucked the cables away. The power goes down one side and the RCA's down the other.

I've got 3 RCA cables running down the right hand side to 2 amps and 2 power cables down the other side to power those amps.

I had 1 RCA going from the headunit to the mono amp then an RCA from it's output to the rear input of the 4 channel amp for the 6x9's. And an RCA from the headunit to the 4 channel amp into the front input.

For some reason unplugging the lead from the mono to the 4 channel amp cuts the noise, so to power the 6x9's I've had to take it from the front output to the rear input (on the same amp).

I know this isn't really the best way for it to be setup but it's stopped the noise... Only thing I don't understand is WHY!??? :-? :-? :-?

All I can guess is maybe the lead, when it was from the mono amp to the 4 channel amp,was to close to the earth point.

PS- Another question whilst people are looking... I got a head unit with a sub output but it only has one phono connection, not 2 (ie; red / white), yet the mono amp that came in the sub package has a normal RCA / phono lead... What do I do in that situation so I can set things up properly?

Cheeeeeers people! :D :D

You should be able to buy mono to stereo RCA cables - I have a couple here at home :)
