Postby Wude Si 16v on Tue Aug 27, 2002 12:12 am

i have decided to do something about the 'untunable Si'. i get fed up with people saying whats the best mod for a 1.6 Si.

I have tried various mods and non really work...

The answer to all this... N.O.S

I ordered a 10lb bottle with all accessories today and recieve it on friday.

it wasnt cheap and cost the best part of a grand but hopefully will be worth it, i will let you all know when it is fitted and i have had a few test runs,

cheers, Adam.

i am getting 25 and 50bhp jets. i will obviously start off with 25 bhp then move onto 50.

i think the theory is that your engine can take half its power in NOS so i think 50 bhp will be right on the edge.

that is a good idea about the rolling road, only problem is i don't know of any around me... :-?

cheers, A.

A grand woulda gone a long way to a 2.0 conversion and your car woulda remained 100% road legal. Not to mention theres the cost of refilling the canisters.

I know aht I'd have done :bonkers:

If you get NOS, you have to get a quality button for setting it off.

My suggestion is a James Bond style gear knob in yellow/black tripes (sort of hazard sign style). Then you flick the top up with your thumb, and under'll be a big red button with warning written on it. yayyy

Exactly what did you buy that nearly cost you a grand? I know for a fact you can have it fitted for £500 from Shepard Motors in Essex.

Gilly that was to you as I was going to fit the kit for you! it would be about £500 + fitting. The kits Shepherds in Essex can sell you are british and are from Highpower (AKA The Wizard of NOS) so are the best you can get.

You can normally run upto the power of your car again in Nitrous provided you upgrade your ignition side of things (ie magnecor leads, decent coil etc), you have a decent clutch etc. (all common sense things) and you run a progressive controller.

It is indeed very expensive to run...I have done over £200 in N2O in about 3 months but its fantastic stuff...its when you go off the lights against something like a Z3 or better and just when they think they might of got you...flick and bang seeya! LOL its VERY addicitve! :D

Hence why I am keeping mine on the mental car and adding a progressive myself to ensure I can really kick some back side when I want!

and it does only last a few minutes on full throttle, but how often are you absolutely flat out...and bearing in mind you only need a few seconds to stonk off from something, thus beating them you only normally use it in short bursts! :Q

Im thinking of NOS on a BMW (i fancy a 318 as a runabout) :)

Basicly the problem with the 1.6 Zetec is you cannot flow enough air into them,, due to the deisng of the head/ports/valves. Nitrous gets around this by being a compressed gas, and as such valve size doenst matter really as your not trying to cram more air into the cylinder, but you air introducing the extra oxygen as loooads of extra air. So NOS will work very well, and is really the only serious tuning option for the 1.6Zetec.

It'll be ace :) I know a lad who runs 75 jets on his 1.8 Zetec (standard) so 50 should be fine, maybe even 75 if you dont mind a lil bit of a risk. (Personlly on my 318 ill run 75 jets cause i dont give a donkey poo.)

You'll love it mate!
