Postby tjk on Sat Jul 29, 2006 1:00 pm

ok im wanting a better sound system.

budget- £400ish

im thinking- headunit, 2 channel amp, and components to start off with.

but what ones? i will go second hand on ebay etc (id rather second hand from ebay so i can get better gear :))

then little while later get another 2 channel amp and 2 subs and iv been told to not have any rear speakers because it will mess the sound stage up.

thanks people!

I've read many many time that you shuld go all-out on picking your head unit, and i must admit it makes sense. It is the source of your music so a crap Hu could ruin a decent setup.

Is that £400 just for HU,Amp and components or is that also for the twin subs in the boot?

I'm looking to buy a Kenwood KDC-W707 headunit due it's relatively high RMS output of 30watts, (others range from 17w to 22w), but this is because i do not intend on amping my speakers so need a HU that can drive them well.

the £400 is for the headunit, amp and components.

so £220 on stereo, £80 on amp, £100 on speakers

Just been to on caraudiosecurity.com and decided picked out the following- if £400 budget does not include subs.

Alpine - CDA-9812RB - CD/MP3 PLAYER - £200 (down from £250)
Kicker - KX150.2 (2x75w RMS) Amplifier - £70 (down from £100)
Rainbow - SLX230 Deluxe (80w RMS) - 13cm components (may not require door builds, depending on depth of magnet) - £120

Or if doing door builds i'd go for a set of Pheonix Gold - ZR6.0COMP - 16cm components. (75wrms) and a seemingly bargain price of £100 down from £190.

Disclaimer - I have no experience personally with any of these, but have heard good things about the brands in this forum, were chosen based on price and getting closely matching RMS power handling.
