RS Engine Conversion

Postby paulbaker on Thu Jul 04, 2002 8:29 am

Does anyone have any clues where I might be able to get my hands on necessaries to convert my 1.6 Zetec to RS. Basically I am looking for Throttle Body and head plus bottom end and possibly ECU.

Getting really fed up looking :(

You'd be better off just finding a complete RS1800 engine and doing the swap, unless you really want to keep the poor 1600 unit in which case I think you can swap the bits over, but I wouldnt reccomend this.

You watch, this will get moved to Tuning now

Already checked these out. He had two but one turned out to only be an XR2i 105PS that had been put in an RS1800 as an engine change. He bought it believing it to be an RS engine but it wasn't. Shows you can never be too careful eh!!! :-?

The other one he is now keeping for is project. :(

Van Aaken now do a Turbo Conv for the 1.6 Zetec which is a bolt-on item. No mods needed i.e. pistons to lower compression ratio etc. Pretty good if u ask me.

if you modified the zetec you'll get a good sort of power like mine

just buy your self a

aclarite forged pistons,
Gerrett T3 Hybrid Turbo,
Cossie ECU,
stage 2 cossie superchip,
ERST Manifolds ETC...
Beige Bosh 701 Injectors,
Cossie Group "A" Fuel Pump
and little bit of boost around 20PSI

and you will get around a 300bhp

NOT BAD M8 :)

G-Flash,

Please don't take this the wrong way but if you're going to give advice please make sure it's correct.

The combination of parts you've listed won't physically fit together, let alone work properly. The ERST uses a totally different type of injector to the FRST and Cosworth, you can't use an ERST inlet manifold and the exhaust manifild won't fit without mods to the head.

The 701 injectors are the wrong impedance for the Cossie ECU and only good for 230bhp max, so you predictions of 300 are way off.

You also make no mention of sump oil returns, rod mods, bore / hone or any of the multiple other modifications you need to make a working Zetec Turbo.
