RS Turbo Lump into Mk2 Escort?

Postby Chris B on Wed Oct 23, 2002 1:28 pm

I have a 1.3L 1979 Escort and i'm looking for more power.
The standard seems to me is to drop in a 2 ltr pinto but i fancy a RS Turbo lump.

I am aware that the RS turbo lump is designed to run transverse but seeing as my escort is rear wheel drive the engine will have to be rotated 90 degrees.

Does anyone know if this conversion is possible and how much work is involved?

Cheers for your Advice

It should fit because they fitted CVH engines to Westfields and the 1.8 CVH was fitted to Sierra's, both being rear wheel drive. Problem is I think you will have to get someone to make up some engine mounts for you because I don't think anyone makes them off the shelf.

Everyone fits 2litre twin cams to Mk2's. The previous issue of Classic Ford magazine had a good article on how to fit a Zetec, Cossie or Vauxhall 16V to the Mk1/2 and gave numbers of the companies that deal with these conversions.

I run a mildly uprated Vauxhall 2litre with twin Dellorto 48's.
