how much power reliably can the good old cvh take before low comp pistons, steel rods, lightened balanced bottom end are needed? or are they advisable any way??

How longs a piece of string mate. If the engine is in good nick you can get over 200bhp on stock internals. My own car makes 207bhp.

My bro has a 200bhp FRST which he always used as a daily driver and it never missed a beat 8)

A lot of it comes down to how it's treated

In theory a std bottom end can take up to 50% more power, but then you have a LOT of factors to consider.
There is no set maximums with this, as each engine is different.

2009 FRS2 : 377bhp ATW / 395lb/ft :)

Beige injectors (Bosch 701's)
chip (pref custom mapped)
GRS / Pro Alloy / Radtec intercooler (PACE cooler is not up to the job)
Stage 2 Hybrid T3 (not .48 housing)
Cossie fuel pump
Kent CVH34 cam and vernier (dialled in)

This should have you pretty close to your goal figure :)

I've got 207bhp and still have the intercooler, fuel pump and cam to add to mine yet

Not yet mate but as the weather has been pretty cold and the car has only done about a couple of hundred miles since the conversion I haven't seen ACT's over 40deg. A new intercooler is very much on the cards as I know the stock intercooler will soon be outphased as the weather changes. Will be bunging my spare ERL water injection kit on as a temp fix until I decide what I want to fit

In theory yes but there is no sign of pinking or det and the fueling has been checked using wide band lamda monitoring equipment and all is checking out ok. As the weather is pretty minging teh ACT's are keeping nice and low even with the boost level. I'm well aware however that come spring it will be struggling to keep cool. I have an ERL water injection kit ready to go on as a short term fix while I decide what intercooler will be fitted.

Paul at Engine Advantages seemed quite impressed at the output for the minimal mods

The lass who owned it before me went to town on pampering it. I've got a folder full of receipts from Ford for everything down to wiper blades :o She had Ford rebuild the top end 5000miles ago so the top end is mint (will still be putting a Kent CVH34/35 in there though  )

A proper 220bhp is my goal for the close of the show season
