Rs1800 ECU - Superchip ?

Postby Nick 2i on Mon Apr 07, 2003 11:05 am

Im getting together all the 130 ps spec bits for my 16v 2i.

the bits i need are, 2.0 tb,rs1800 ecu & cams

Ive got a 2.0 TB.

Ive got a superchip in my car, its a blue one with superchips on the front & its goes under the passenger footwell, would this make the same difference that a rs1800 ecu would make? i was just thinking if it did i would need to get an rs1800 ecu to get to the 130 ps spec!

also how much would a rs1800 ecu go for?

Cheers, Nick :D

cheers chum! ;)

The RS1800 ECU has a totally different map to the XR2i - You try running the RS1800 ECU without the 130spec Cams - It sucks!!!!

Just chipping the 2i ECU wont bring it up to 130Spec. You would need to either:

a) Remap the whole 2i ECU (AFAIK only mr Bayjoo can do it )
b) just get a RS1800 ECU.

The chip you have "may" fit the RS1800ECU - but it will need to be set up again - NOTICE THOUGH I SAID MAY!!

Also, when running the 2.0 throttle body make sure it opens fully when using the fiesta linkage. The mondy linkage is to big and doesnt fit when mounted to the fez manifold.

And another thing - with the cams - If you are going to get second hand cams make sure they are reprofiled first and fitted with new springs and tappets (cheers Mexi ;) )

Hope this helps

one last thing,

once all the mods are done and your gonna get it chipped again it may well be worth getting a FSE power boost valve.

I have spoken to three different tuners who both say:

"It wont increase the power by much (maybe 1bhp if your lucky!) but the drivability will be transformed and there will be no flat spots"

Cheers

You need to use the linkage from the fiesta TB.

Also two parts of the mondy tb need to be machined slighty so that:

a) you get full throttle

b) the bracket that holds on the cable fits.

I will take some pics of the one on my car (used to belong to mark stewart - so i had all the hard work done for me!!)

But be careful with the cams mate, dont go getting second hand ones and wacking them straight in.

Kent cams do a kit but its about 500 odd quid!
