RS1800 engine conversion
Does anyone have any info on a 1.1 => RS1800 conversion?
e.g. how much it'll cost, what needs to be done e.t.c.
cheers,
Ben

ive done 1.6Si > RS1800 which was striahgt swap of engine and ecu. but a 1.1 doesent have the top zetec engine mount bracket or the right brakes or anti roll bars. plus the whole loom would have to be changed as its incompatible. ITS A LOT OF WORK

Thanks for your reply mate,
Im starting off on a 1.1 for insurance reasons; so this cant really be changed.
Brakes arent a problem as they will be upgraded anyway (cossie brakes I think)
do the anti roll bars make much difference to the handling?
Does anyone know any reputable companies I can get conversion quotes from?
Sorry for all the questions...
p.s. Out of interest, how much did your 1.6Si > RS1800 conversion set you back?

any place with mechanice shuld be able to the conversion or u cud try and get a quote off x factor on here. i paid 200 quid to wack my engine in which isnt that bad but i [ERRR] have done it myself really wouldnt have taken more than a weekend . but im planning to put the 2.0 bottom end on myself.
as for the anti-roll bars they must make a notible difference or they wouldnt have been put on but i doubt they are that hard to fit its literally a bar bolted on .

hmmmm.... would it be harder to fit the escort engine tho?
and would the other bits from the escort work in my fiesta (e.g. ecu loom)
I think ill go for the xr2i fiesta engine for ease of fitting, then modify that
in the future - Im hoping it wont be expensive to get around RS power from that.
Cheers, Ben

chumkila :The 130ps spec engine also came in the Escort XR3i and the Escort Cab if that helps.
is this the same engine as fitted to the 1.8 Orion Si.
a mate was telling me 1.8 orion Si engineis the same engine as the xr3i, but he pays shed loads less on insuracne as its classed as a si lump an is cheaper for sum reason???.

i thought escort Si engines come in 1.6 90bhp, and 1.8 115bhp in the Si and GTi escorts. ur orion man could have the 115bhp or the 105bhp unit. i doubt he got 130bhp unit but i could be wrong.

Benyboy, if you're gonna be spendin a fair bit on this, why not just get the whole car? Rayfinkle's selling a nice sounding 2i for £900! I would've bought it a couple of months ago but now I've just spent £300 doing stuff to my car, so can't have it. Insurance costs a bit more, I know, but would it work out to be that much more than what you've got planned? Just a thought...

buying whole car vs. engine conversion
Basically mate, the reason im doing a conversion rather than buying a fast fiesta is cuz of insurance.
Liverpool victoria quoted me just under a grand on a 1.1 with RS1800 engine, bodykit, and lowered. (TFT, for a 19 year old)
(the bodykit actually REDUCED the quote!!! )
so it will work out cheaper in the long run to do a conversion + my mates a mechanic who knows his stuff and will do conversion cheeeep
Ben
p.s. mondeo 2.0 engine is tempting! Im gonna phone up and see what Liverpool Victoria think about that.... Surely it would be a lot more work too fit though???
Cheers, Ben

There's only slightly more involved to put the 2.0L Mondy engine in. You'll need to change the oil pick up pipe and sump for a fiesta part and get some fiesta zetec engine mounts to replace the Mondy ones. There may be more but it's easy enough.

Don't be mean! It's got way more torque, which is handy Not looking at converting the engine yet, still sweet as anything.

Do you know Danbury mate?
If you are from the chelmsford area you might have seen me about in my
navy blue Mk 5 fezzie (zetec-swheels, body colour rear lights, custom bodykit etc).
P.s. this car will be for sale soon as I owe my dad lots of money! (and I
need more power ) This is where the mk 3 1800 conversion comes in

Yes that simple dude. I've also done it. Basically take the 1600 out, replace it with the 1800 and connect evrything up as before. If you have one then also unplug the ecu and plug in the new one.
Only problem I had was that my 1600 starter didn't last long so I had to swap it for the 1800 item shortly after the conversion.
