nice up-date mate, engine bay cleaning is never much fun but needs to be done
the rear beam bush's should just push in as they're pollybush's, my RST's and the ZS's pushed in fine no drama's but if they where standard Ford bush's you would need to press them in, the fun bit is getting them out
the painting looks spot on, super tidy
can't wait for the next up-date
keep up the good work

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
right, got the engine monday night
slight issue tho. one of the exhaust studs snapped, it had to be the one nearest to the cambelt
had a mate weld a nut on to it but snapped again
did this twice more, but heating head with a blowtorch to help, twice it snapps
not good times i tell you.
the plan is now grind it flush, centre punch remains of stud, then drill it out slowly with small drill bits, getting larger until either the thread comes out or have to re tap it to get it out and clear hole
do have some new studs and bolts, genuine ford, piced up today as dont want them to snap when i fit 4 branch when i get one made up
but this is going to be put on hold for a week as have some good news
i am going in with two of my friends, and we are renting a LARGE workshop, 2000' to be percise.
i dont have much of it, but i aint payin much, £20 a month more than i pay now to rent a garage, but getting more space
will upload pics of my fiesta and bits in there new home when i have moved. also means i can steall mates HUGE engine crane to get engine back in, happy days
also will upload the bits that have been painted when i get to workshop.
might even respray whole car in future , tidy it up a bit even tho its mainly a track toy, (but road leagal for summer evenings and weekends )

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
going to try and remove it before engine goes in but if it doesnt come out with the persuasion of one last weld, then i will be defeted and not bother.
still havent got rs up to new workshop, mainly as the floor paint hasnt dried till this week, and cant organise the trailer atm as its got a banger car on it!
did buy something for it at the weekend tho, bit naughty spending when i dont have to but couldnt resist
looks good quality and you can feel the weave so makes it more realsitic.
its 1480x2000mm, supposed to be able to do a roof or bonnet.
my plans are bonnet, wing mirrors, boot spoiler and door handles, maybe the roof strips if enough left, which there should be plenty so longs i get it right first time
in this picture thought i would use a shoe to give perposions of wrap size, but my cat decided he was better, then quickly decided that it would be even more fun to try and annoy daddy by playing with tube and try to eat it!! bad kitty, no!
looking at these pics, looks like i have a worn carbon fiber mat aswell didnt even realise it till now
if car doesnt go to workshop this weekend i will start to wrap bits at home

just spotted a set of compomotive th wheels on the bay (really shouldn't be aloud on it on pay day )
am winning at the moment. they are pug fit but with a spiggot ring and maybe longer studs, they might fit over brakes and be my track wheels. also have part worn 195/50/15 toyo 888's on them fingers crossed.
if i go up the workshop tomoz will take some photo's of what im sharing with. bit of a variaty
ps. dont tell the wife

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
right finally organised a trailer for the rs to go up the workshop.
one issue, he can do it today bout 2 o'clock, BUT!!! its my wife's birthday!
but being such a great wife, she said go ahead, ive been waiting sooo long, that she doesnt mind as it will make me happy, and get on with it
then tells me she is out with her mother at 2ish any way, doh
have wrapped the spoiler yesterday, but as a newby it didnt go too well.
but not as bad as bonnet. cut out sections for lights as to save material, but when pulling to tighten and move a bit, it decided to rip right across the nose!!
the back did look really good tho. so have ordered another roll
will show pics when its up the workshop, but wont upload till tomoz as i dont wanna upset wife too much(she in bathroom atm so doesnt know im on here , shh)

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
yea it will fit, i know it fits blacktops fine, as thats what the ZX3 uses, similar to the SVT focus aswell, which over here is the ST170
so really if a st170 manifold fits, this will
bloody cheap too!, postage should be around £40? still cheaper and better than the ashley competition equivalent!

Razer :That's a nice manifold.. now i want one to, instead of my 4 branch manifold
problem with them is they take up alot of room, and unless you wrap it they get alot of heat into the top of the bay, not so bad for a blacktop, but the silvertops intake runs over that area

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
ah the joys of throttle bodies, can route intake towards brake servo and end at the battery(which will be rellagated to the boot )
the carbon fibre roll was £30+£10 p&p, not bad for 1480x2000, bonnet + lots of off cut
will heat wrap mani if i get it, but just window shopping for now as need to get on with fitting engine and throttle bodies and brakes and rear beam and what ever else i find
oh well. cars in new home now so will hope fully be able to crack on with the whole lot. pics to follow if i get back up there today

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
That manifold will only work with a rear starter gearbox. The starter motor will hit the can in the downpipe so the other option is to cut the can out and weld a straight pipe in.
Got a link to the carbon wrap, was thinking of doing my fibreglass bonnet as the finish on it is crap and you can see the ripples in it now its painted

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
realise what you mean. looked on ebay at a different obx mani, then looked at my link, Doh!
if i get one, might get a local fabricator to bend/redirect lower half as not to restrict flow with notching the can.
but that is looking to far in advance.
no updates yet as camera is playing up and not working again!!
this weekend is hopefully going to see a flurry of progression on it as atm i have a free one.
am going on a track day in my moody escort on 15th april, would of loved to get the fiesta there but time is not on my side, and dont know where to get it mapped as talk of the devil have gone bust and they were going to do it once it was ready. thats why i bought omex. Doh!!
will keep you in the loop as and when progress is made.

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets" pictures 02/04/11
back again, finally got the camera to work, here is what i have been up to, not much but its a step in the right direction
here it is up at my shared unit. like i said not much space but better than a garage and help is usually on hand, as well as more tools
decided to save a little more weight and remove spare wheel and tray
to my surprise i found this, result
RS1800 alloy with nearlly new pirelli 700.
was a bit corroded but has been there for last 4-5 yrs ive owned it without being disturbed.
only issue is that it was over tightened when last used so the steel radial belt has been mishaped and it has dents where the tray and chassie rails crushed it
as i cant use it due to 300mm brakes, decided to donate it to my wifes old man as he has an rs and 2i on these rims.
did a little cleaning aswell. cleaned and primed my battery tray.
also removed my front lower arms and engine mount and subframe.
going to clean and paint subframe and take my lower arms to xport racing in basingstoke to rose joint them
thats all i have done at the moment as dont get much time up there to work on it at the moment.

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets" update with pics 9/4/11
got to the workshop again and got mooching on the front end again.
stripped the arches of shocks, hubs and anti roll bar.
also took back all the wires and pipes on the drivers side inner wing ready for spraying. used filler primer then painted. didnt realyy sand as just wanted to get rid of big scratches. its not going to be mint but a little tidy up will hopefully make a difference.
here are some close ups. didnt come out that bad, and the metalic looks lovely
and my favorate pic
just gotta wait till it dries, then can do the other side
also painted power steering bottle/tank mount quicly while i was at it
will hopefully get up there again tomorrow or monday to start the other side. once that is done it will FINALLY be refit time(and about time too )

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets" update with pics 9/4/11
didnt get to go up there today
engine hasnt moved
just gotta bolt mount and throttle bodies, attach to the gear box and instert
because its just that easy
trying to tidy it up first. and clean all the bits under the bonnet, so if there is a leak i will be able to spot it and not think it has always been there
thats the theory anyway
will try to get some more progress during the week and maybe get the lump in over the two bank holidays as im off for the whole 11 days
but will see how everything plans out as gotta do some building work in the garden

hi there people, just to let you know i am still around, but more importantly, so is the rs1800.
have had some things to sort out and now working somewhere new(same company)
will hope to get a thorough update soon, but engine in, suspension on, throttle bodies on.
only really gotta finish wiring loom and get my home made manifold welded up
pics during the week hopefully if all goes to plan.
