Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
as promised here is a pic of the disc. that is a size 9.5 dc for refernce
not small are they
here they are "SQUEEZED" behind the RS2k rims( am using 10mm spacers atm)
have about fag papers gap between caliper and rim but "if there is space, theres space "
here are the other options but at the moment am liking the RS2K rims better
hope to have head back this weekend to crack on with finishing the engine.
just need a cambelt kit and clutch kit.
any sugestion on clutch kits to use?
had the idea of either skimmin my flywheel a nats to lighten it, or re-drill a CVH flywheel as they are lighter as standard
also bought this the other week, will bolt on to my floor pan, just need a KA handbreak lever and zetec-s front cable.
its a puma rear beam, and 20% stiffer, and 20mm wider over total width, should help in handling

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
i hope its the later fork type beam? or you've wasted your efforts
the earlier puma beam is identical to the mk4 item and isnt much stiffer, later ones are as stiff as the Zetec s beam
(well the 1.7 ones are atleast)

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
its off a 2000 milenium model.
think its the later one but does have eye mounting
my wifes puma is a 1998 model which has fork mounts and the alli spacer ford put in as an after thought
my one for the RS has the spacer as part of the beam, ie, its a piece of 10mm steel actually welded to the hub face on the axle. will post up pics of mine and the wifes to show the difference
tought all puma/ zetec-s beams were uprated compaired to the mk3 ones
if mine is wrong will swap it with the wifes as her spacers are "worn" lol
and coil over kits are more often on ebay for this model

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
nah you have the later one, it changed after 97/98 as did the mk4 fiesta, all mk5s and 98 onward pumas have the spaced and stronger beam, but the 1.7 puma and zetec s had a stronger beam again
quick way to tell, if it has eye mounting, its the stronger beam, but like i said zs and 1.7 puma beams are even stronger than all the others
apparently as good as a twin anti-roll bar'd mk3 rear torsion beam

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
hello there again.
bad news bout progress
didnt work on RS at weekend, was busy with other peoples projects
got an emgine, gearbox, prop, diff and front hubs of a bmw as he is putting it into his track day compact. some people will never learn.
looking foward to see his face as i go past him when the rs is done
have got some plans for this weekend tho, but again no promises as i cant garrentie getting out to the car.
am after some advice tho, looking at the brakes, im not happy with the lack of clearance i have and cooling it will get, so looked on the internet today and found 24mm hubcentric spacers.
basically a 24mm spacer with spiggot ring mount so it doesnt stress the studs. (sure people have seen these before)
just wanted peoples verdict on them as not sure how good/safe they will be. also how quick will it eat wheel bearings
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-FIESTA-MK3-2 ... 3cb4d070e0
see link for better descripton
anyhow what you peeps recon?
as i have a puma rear beam, with 10mm spacers probably, (totaling 20mm over complete axel) it will be slightly wider, but might be getting racing puma spacers to combat that.

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
never used them, but they seem safe, i recently used non centric ones that were 32mm each and just extended the studs using a screw on piece
i was s**t myself driving it so i refunded them
them ones are good in the sense they use second studs
will be bloody wide mind you, what wheels you using most 15" ones wont fit if the offset is around 35et

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
here are the pics of rust at back end of car. none of front, or after i cut the rear bits off as dam flatterys went bat
going to spend a little more time on it again tomoz. sent message to someone about 130 spec engine for sale, asking for it cheaper as dont need inlet, wiring loom or ecu. he is just up the motorway from me, not even an hours drive. lets hope he goes for it
if i do get this then it will be a manick weekends work or two and get her running again
fingers are so crossed right now they are turning purple
might meen i get it welded and mot'd before the show season finish's.
but im getting ahead of myself
am really getting into the mood for working on it again. dont know how i could have been so blasphimus and threaten scrapping it

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
back panel aint too bad, you could cut most of that away and not even have to replace it, but atleast if its a scruffy repair you can cover it with the bumper
bit under the boot seal looks a Bic™ though

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
was thinking of making the back panel "light weight"
if weather clears up, am hoping to go to scrap yard and cut bits of fiestas off
then they should meet and fit perfect if i cut them both right
i was mostly concerned about the suspension top mounting area that is excessivly NOT THERE
wanna cut section out and refit either thick sheet or doaner part from scrapy.
going out this morning to get a new tv, hopefully cheer me up

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
that is the plan, cut whole section off and then trim it and the car till they fit.
close boot and tack weld inside. make sure it fits, then lash it up
might be cutting the front corner of front wings off as slightly scabby, and light weight is the way forward
if i get chance, will throw it in on the weekend with enough help, might even get it running
will post pics of pannel removal tomoz when its light and betterys are charged

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
sold
to me
seemed fine mate, looked as if its been taken care of
am hopefully collecting it tommorow.
which means strip down of escort ancillarys, and refit of fiesta bits during the week.
therefore leaving the weekend to hopefully wedge it back into the bay.
better get a move on with cleaning it first tho
gonig to give light rub down and quick coat of paint to freshen it up a bit, like you have done the strut towers.
will defo get pics up as each stage is complete.
havent done anything to it today as been dog sittin after looking at engine

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
right, mini update, due to weather, the engine is still in mateys escort, but is only held in by three bolts, he needs engine crane, as cant get it out underneath as rusted/snapped exhaust downpipe bolts.
what that does mean is i have had time to tidy up alot in front of the rs to make room to fit it(dead engine+box where under bay still )
also, have attacked the back end with the grinder to remove the rust, and decided to go a bit further and reduce weight
unfortunatly also found these bits while grinding
this is were the flap for moisture to escape is and its a little bit crusty, dont know if i should completely remove and just rely on the one side.
or try and use one from a scrapped fiesta and try to combine the two.
also found this on the drivers side rear arch.!
means im going to have to get the body shop on it
but its not a worry for now as its not a real issue. wont try to repair it yet as it will need completely replacing later on.
hope to have an update before the weekend of a few things that still need srorting before the engine goes in.

will be attacking the front wings with the grinder at the weekend to reduce some more weight.
its not all for the weight savin tho, theory is if there is no metal there, it cant rot there
just bought some powerflex rear axle bushes for the puma beam, and a KA handbrake lever.
only need the handbrake cable now to have a fully operational rear brake set up(once fitted of course
will try to clean the rear beam this weekend before i have to get enginer bay ready.
just another task to do before the car is ready

good news on the rear beam bush's and handbrake handle too, get the old wire wheel on the rear beam dude, shouldn't take to long to freshen it up with that and a drop of hammerite
just got mine back from the bodyshop as your thinking about sending yours off

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
right, little update for tonight
here are a few before pics of dirty engine bay
not a great job, but it helps all the least, does need a bit of paint in some areas
here are the goodies that came today. suprising what excites me, but i love it when i get post
and a pic of the lever, not much but if it makes everythin work it deserves a picture
got this a while ago, its for a cvh, but as i wont have a standard inlet it shouldnt matter
will get onto an early start tomorrow to get a bit done before gokarting.got some satin black paint for the lower strut brace/ exhaust hanger
will post up when its drying
also going to trial fit the rear beam bushes, and if i get chance, a first coat of paint to the axle.
wish me luck

Re: RS1800 "project trumpets"
on the puma forum they are ment to be peace of piss, just use alocated lube and slot them in?
will find out tomorrow, might just fit them the once when beam is painted lol
dont know why im putting so much detail in it as its mainly going to be used for track, with the accasional show and weekend useage,
but thought i might aswell as it would annoy me knowing its not tidy
did find some more bloody rust!!
something else to pay for
when will it ever end
