what's involved here? i know that i'll need a new loom etc. how BIG of a job actually is it? I really need a bigger engine but cant be arsed going for anything smaller just cos it's easier to fit (i.e. a 1.6S CVH or similar) as i'd rather just have what I want straightaway!!!
wot sort of insurance quotes have people had on these engines? Brad...i know u fitted ones of these???
Help appreciated peeps!

RS1800, 2ltr Zetec and RS Turbo are all 130bhp
the Xr2i 1.8 16v is 115bhp (i think)
i think this is right

Mine was a lot easier as I didn't have to touch the management etc and the RS1800 engine has very sinilar ancillaries to the Si 16v-water pump mounts were slightly different but apart from that all was ok. Oh yeah I needed a different starter motor aswell.
You'll probably need the engine with bits like starter, management, throttle body, mounts, water pump, airbox, gearbox, then maybe radiator etc etc. I would buy a salvage RS1800 and then you know ALL the bits are there or strip an RS1800 from the scrappy. PaulRS1800 might have all the stuff still-not sure tho.

WTF you wanna do it?
Just use the RS1800.
Unless you're out to scam the folks upstairs, but that's not such a good idea now, is it
Look out, numpty in the making folks!

Cos then he'd have to do all the body mods again, swap the suspension etc again.
Not to mention the hassle of getting his current car into a sellable conditions then going through the selling process, advertising it, spending time demonstrating the car.
Then locating a good RS 1800, having it inspected and HPI checked, engine looked over etc.
Also by selling one and buying another you don't learn anything about mechanics, how the engine fits in and what all the sensors do and how they connect up.
Plus if you get a written off 1800 it's gonna be the cheaper route, maybe even to the extent that there are enough parts not needed, trim, bumpers etc as to recoup almost all of the inital cost of the written off vehicle.

What Ade said! He's exacty right! It's as much to with fookin' around with stuff as anything else! I would never fully trust what someone else has done (they dont care about the car as much as I do) therfore if I do everything myself I can make sure that
a) everything is done PROPERLY and
b) that good care is taken.
My overall aim is to have a car where all the mods have been done properly and everything to do with the car is clean and to the best possible standard....the only ways I can do this are to either pay someone a LOT of money to do it for me, or do it all myself.
