Running problem
Hi there I have a fiesta rst and having problems with it running. I think it's down to map sensor along the lines. It will run okay with map sensor unplugged but as soon as u go to drive it than it just doesn't seem to want to go and just cuts out like its run out of fuel. I have fitted new sensor but problem is even worse. Any help would be great . Thanks

Re: Running problem
best bet would be to get it plugged in to a diagnostic machine, unfortunatley, your car is pre OBD, meaning you can only get readers that flash a led which you have to count... can be a bit tricky on the fast codes if you can still get them that is
there is a guide on how to build one on the forum that has a lcd screen and you get a chip from the designer that does all the hard graft for you and tells you the codes
for me, this is where i would start, as it could be a number of things at fault or just one thing... could end up buying parts that dont make any difference and parts can work out expensive when they build up for a process of elimination...

Re: Running problem
So its the same with the map unplugged and plugged in? can you rev it up in situ or does it bog down?

Hi guys thanks for your reply. It is a little bit better without the map sensor plugged in but when u go to drive it all it does is bog out.

Re: Running problem
could there be a vaccum leak somewhere, small enough to allow idle but big enough to flood the afr with too much air on throttle...

Re: Running problem
I had a very similar problem turned out it was the co2 pot, it was turned all the way to one side (dont know how think younger brother)i got a multi meter and set the co2 pot to the middle and started it and sorted it out, but its not the best messing with co2 pot as this could result it running to lean and nackering your engine but thats what was wrong with mine and i checked and replaced everything

Billyfiestars1 :How do I work out the codes with amount of flashes
they are 3 digit codes depending on the number of stored codes there are it can get a bit tricky to read but it will flash a number of times followed by a pause then flash again and repeats....
for example
a code like 231
* = flash
... = pause
you would have **...***...*

i doubt it... a meter reading will probably flutuate as the codes are being read...
there is a tool made by gunson to read the flash codes, but finding it hard to find any available
this is basically what you are after

Re: Running problem
The co2 pot is basicly a resister so you can see the resistance with a multi meter, the multi meter isnt for ready the codes

Re: Running problem
Have you checked the fuel pressure? pipe on the pump inside the tank is prone to failing, will run fine on idle, as soon as you demand more fuel the engine will bog down/cut out

Analogue multimeter works just fine for reading slow codes
So does an appropriately connected LED, fwiw.
Nothing to see here...
