Re: running probs
I had a similar problem,if not the same from your description, when I did the RST transplant in my Escort. I had installed a wideband lamda and under no obvious reason, day or night, lights on or off, rad fan working or not, it suddenly started to lean from 14.7 at idle and going to 19 and even 22 AFR sometimes... for no apparent reason, it started to hunt and was ready to turn off. I checked the fuel pump, tested the fuel pump pressure, regulator, hoses, even ultracleaned the injectors. The solution found when I replaced the power wires (+12V) from the ignition relay to the ECU and also checked and renewed the grounds in the engine loom. I would suggest to check the condition of the ECU printed circuit, although not for the faint hearted since you need to dismantle the ECU and check for faulty solderings on the printed board. They tend to break after all these years and the traffic bump and rattling from the roads. You need to take care of what you touch since you can burn the ECU from electroistatic discharge which can be as high as 30000 volts or even more. If you don't have the needing knowledge, better skip this...
