I did see you the other week while I was in my white one at the Asda roundabout, but I didn't flash because I wasn't sure you'd have a clue who I was

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
Will do!
One thing though, we don't get *too* involved with exhaust stuff, so don't be surprised if they say they can't do it! Also, I know full well, in our exhaust book we don't have any listings on RS Turbos anymore Best idea is to try Cats round the corner from us, they can do very good prices on the exhaust side of things because they deal with them all day long and even stock a lot of stuff too
With the suspension, you may need to swap hub carriers and stuff too, as the front shocks are a different size between the MK3.5 and MK3... I don't know exactly what needs changing, but if you have everything there on the RS shell, it shouldn't be too problematic

i was thinkin that last night that you don't do much in the way of exhaust items so yea will do thanks for the headsup
and im just guna swap pretty much the whole front end of the car and have all the rs turbo bits on mine so then aswell later on in life when i get coilovers i can get em for a mk3 as i havnt seen a set for the mk3.5 yet

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
not an update as such as i havent done anything to the car after loosing my job but now iv got another one and things should be rolling again,
as of next week im buying a rsturbo that has been rebuilt 3k ago but the oil seals have gone in the turbo but no worries as i already have another turbo now only a standard T2 for now.. ... im buying the car for the engine and the interior mostly and might just swap the rear beam with mine as 1. it has the anti roll bar and 2. i think 1 of my wheel bearings is starting to go so could make things easier.. iv had a look around the car and its not in too bad condition the interior is minty mint mint with not a scratch on and and the engine is all good with a s/s cat back exhaust so i will be using all this, as far as im aware the only thing wrong with the car apart from in need of a spray as it has surface rust around the bonnet edge and other odd places but the petrol cap area is fine is that the floor pan needs a sheet welding, was just wondering if anyone would be interested in the shell with either this welded and fixed or as it is... will be going very cheap...
so the next update will be pics of me picking up the rs turbo and then all the work of swapping over the bits so stay tuned people
as usual any comments are welcome

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
cant believe you claimed the zetec isnt very tunable... most can hit 150bhp with silly mods that cost bearly nothing, few hundreds at most
four branch, air filter, good exhaust and a chip, like most have said going past 160 is more challanging using N/A
if you want to embarris you XE welding nova mate, get it turbo'd on budget, it can easiliy pop 180 margain, 200 isnt a far cry or more
Ian Howells and Ahmed Bajoo made over 570bhp from theyre prodject zetec turbo, thats more than most 2.0l will allow
zetec turbo conversions on a budget come under less than a £1000 if you have good resources and equipement

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
what im saying is IMO the with keeping the zetec NA i dont think its worth the money it requires to get to a decent power output, as in compared with a rs turbo, im doing everything on a budget atm and thers not alot of difference in the prices of gettin a rs turbo engine and a zetec engine so the tuning side is what i was asking for peoples opinions on and in my eyes with the zetecs stayin NA to get it to 160bhp+ and a rs turbo to 160bhp+ it looks to me as the rs turbo will be cheaper to get to that figure, im not sayin the zetecs are not tuneable because as everyone has prooved they are, its just with the budget i have i think a rs turbo would be a better route to take (plus im gettin one cheap )
plus IMO 150bhp isn't really enough for me (i know il get criticism for sayin this) but i dont think its that much compared to the two cars i want to beat, a XE nova which is about 150-160bhp, and a 205 with the gti6 engine which are 170bhp and which i think both of these cars would be lighter than my car aswell so i will need to make up with extra power to beat them.. which is why i said that i think the zetecs arent that tuneable for there money as you could put 1k into a NA zetec and get what 170bhp? at most whereas if i was to put 1k into a rs turbo id expect around 200 mark

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
if you spend about £1200 on a 2.0l you would get 180-200bhp using some jenvey throttle bodies and some decent cams, a nice cheap 4-2-1 and a panel filter would see this figure fine,
and dont forget if a N/A engine has roughly the same as a turbo engine, specially anything bigger than a T2 the N/A 2.0 zetec would likely be quicker, as no turbo lag to deal with plus the 2.0 zetec would provide more torque on average than the 1.6 cvh turbo
with the cvh you'd be needing a good cam, good exhaust and induction, a T3 conversion good intercooler and a 195 chip, this would cost close to a grand id say
plus with a zetec you will get more refinement with a more economic and smoother engine

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
i dont think youd be able to get jenveys have them all set up a xhaust system remap and a decent induction plus id have to get the inlet for the jenveys i reckon itd cost more to 1500 plus that'd be a pain to travel everywhere oto get the jenveys set up etc. with the r turbo lump iv only got to travel to get the map done plus i have been told that the rs turbo lump i have bought COULD have a 1.8 zetec bottom end, uprated cam, beige injectors and a superchip on it... although this is not definate it would be nice! IMO i dont rate the zetec engine for price on performance gains whilst NA IMO! hence why i have bought a fiesta rs turbo
im not sayin the zetecs are cr*p etc as im doing the zetec conversion into my cousons newly bought xr2i so i will find out first hand which i prefer and i may be prooved wrong but for the moment i hold my judgement that IMO the rs turbo engines are better in my eyes

You could do a t3 conversion for well under £1000 with second hand parts. Where as Jenveys plus management is going to be stupid money, bearing in mind its going to need mapping/a rolling road session too. To get 200bhp and over with n/a your going to need head work done even with aftermarket cams.

wayne claims he is getting a kit with omex (not sure which one 600 maybe?) and the 45mm jenvey bodies all set up for a grand
ok cams for £300, K&N about £45 but can be cheaper and a four branch for around £170
id prefer a nice usuable N/A zetec with close enough makes no difference 180bhp

I said that about my RS1800. I was talking about cams, throttle bodies ect ect until my brother (fiend) bought a 196bhp Fiesta RS Turbo which was a perfectly fine car for driving round town in but when you needed it, it could be brutally fast. I wouldn't even consider N/A tuning after that. To be honest though the N/A or Turbo route is an each to their own kind of situation.

oo i didnt know fiend was your brother
like you said though, its down to personal preferance, personally ive never had a turbo, or even driven one (except a tdi )
but i am comfortable with N/A to know they can be easy to live with even after some tuning

If the wiring starts to melt, I'm so glad you don't know where I live
Good to hear you've almost there... Reckon you can get the lot done tomorrow? You're a day behind your schedule now!!!

almost i had a pain in the arse sortin out the zorst and then i had to make up my fuel lines so these took up quite a while but it is in and sort of running lol
plan of action tomorow:
secure the 2 clamps on the exhaust system
connect rear engine support
sort out gearlinkage as it isnt aligned properly
fill gearbox up with fluid
chuck some anti freeze in it
find my usb cable so i can upload some pictures
and then find out why she isnt going although i have my suspisions lol

At least you're getting there!
Just make sure all the connectors are in the right places, injectors, HT leads, all the sensors, etc... It can't be anything major as you know it was running fine before you took it out

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
this engine conversion is appearing to be alot more challenging that i thought it would be lol
i got the engine running today but something is not right 2 of the cylinders when i pulled out the ht lead whilst its running do not offect it and sounds like its running on 3 cylinders
iv also got to get some fuel lines tomorow to make all my fuel lines upfor it as at the moment they are very bodged
i havent as of yet changed over the tanks/pumps but i wouldnt of thought it would make the car run like this
will be having a long think over tonyt and get back on it tomrow to find out why will be gettin a compression test done tomorow also
i do hope if not buggered

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
sounds like it could be the ignition to me, check its set up right
its obviously something to do with sparking if some of the cylinders aint firing, if you can also throw some redex in give the injectors a little clean through
also check the gaps on the spark plugs

the spark plugs are brand new as are the leads and me and si checked the leads and theyre all on the right way around and wwhen he pulled the out they were sparking so i dont think its anything to do with the ingition
and also the injectors are clicking so i think theyre firiing, going to get some fuel line and do a compression test on it and see what comes from that
