 yea easily mate lol,, and recommend it is a daily ... depends of I like the person or not :bonkers: but honestly... hell no, bloody in reliable and fuel economy is astronomical iv never had more than 22 mpg out of it unless its on the motorway even then I don't se 30, and if your spirited driving can get it single digits fairly easily lol depends what u want from it tho and how much u wanna spend on an rs turbo in the 1st place. I'm not saying all rs turbos are but mine is defo poop lol , mind u I bought the whole rs turbo car for 400 without it running right and went from there... if I had the choice digi n buy a nice clean original 1 and that would be loads better,
but me personally I don't give 2 sh!ts about all that lol it's my car that iv built feom ground up, looks how I want it to, goes better than ALOT of things, it handles great bla bla but most of all its mine ,iv built it, an everytime I drive it the smile I have on my face out weighs all the negatives easily :D

I'v driven loads of new cars and loads of old cars tbf and if I'm honest I can easily day I'd rather drive my fiesta than anything iv ever driven ( altho my mates nova c20xe on race cams and Jenveys at 200bho is a right laugh and sounds epic! shame its a vauxhall and they don't handle well lol) can't beat the general feel of my fiesta when I drive it Havnt ha another car feel as good as this :) hence why she owes me around 4k now  oh well it's only money

:D thanks very much mate! means alot

yea I don't see why not I just find a highly strung 20 odd year old turbo engine running on ancient management is a good idea   guna save for megasquirt in the new year :) my granda had an xr2 when they first come out and absolutely loved it

I'd imagine about 160 with the 165 chip, k&n cone filter, scorpion 2.5" straight through and double capacity intercooler should hope for around that tbh :) it's certainly not shy

yea I don't think il ever get rid of this  just keep making it faster :bonkers:

it also sounds the b0110cks aswell :D

well this is what iv Ben thinking about, anew 195 chip is £150 where's as megasquirt is only a hundred odd more, and would give me ALOT better control n management , safer power and more than likely more power, and maybe even slightly better mpg? but tbh I'm not bothered :bonkers: so unless I get offered a 195 chip 2nd hand for a good price I'm guna go standalone as its leagues better than any form of chip n tune :D have also narrowed what wheels I want down to 3 :)

sounds like a great plan mate! my mate has an xr2 then changed the bottom end to 2ltr and stuck some twin 40's on it ! that gies quite well and sounds great and he said he's never had a problem with his xr2 engines so go for it :) and if u want more grunt later on, you can increase the capacity with a zetec bottom end and slap some carbs Etc on it  oh I'm sure il be keeping it for a while lol
that's exactly it mate someone at some point has to try somin different for new better things to be found :) tbh it wouldn't matter to me if it was the last original RSt left, its my car and I wouldn't keep it a certain way to please others if rather build it to how I want it , after all its your own money, time, tears u put into it no1 else so might aswell have it how you want it

also I don't think I could EVER have a standard car lol nothing personal about it if its the same as every other one..

just my opinion...

thanks for the heads up ! if had a brief look I to it but can't seem to find it any cheaper than £250 or in England lol can get ms2 (albeit you have to build the ECU ) for £280 brand new which I thought was a good price
just guna have to save up dough and see what comes about

na me neither mate  and  cruising in a good size convoy with the lads is always a laugh :D and I swear all a tunnel means is "who can make the most noise" haha iv got 2 sheds full, my room is full and I'm now branching into the kitchen :) not that my mum is happy about it

well not done much ATM as been working loads to pay for it to be fixed, but I have a MLS head gasket in the post thanks to rs220bhp, new head bolts , and all the other bits to get it built back up, my head is being pressure tested n skimmed if ok today , so I should have tht back to if gt so all I'm waiting on is the postman with my gasket and should be ok to chuck it back together :D god I miss driving my car :( ... also been a little busy lately been repainting my brakes (same colour) and undersealing the arches as winter is here.. god underseal is messy sticky stuff lol oh and also picked up somin the other day from a guy of passion ford for a great price :) but I won't let u guys knows as I still got a few lil bits before I can make any use of it, will hopefully have some pics for u guys soon , oh and iv also chucked on my standard bonnet whilst were having all this s**t weather as the rain/snow comes straight through the vents to the battery and alternator

Re: Russ' mint green FRST , Update :)

Postby russ-RST on Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:37 pm

wow haven't update this in a while! well the engine got built all back up using a steel gasket head came back and wasn't cracked thankfully :) so it all got built back up,thermostat chucked in some nice magnetec oil chucked in with It and its been running lovely :Q done maybe 1k in it since the rebuild now? I dunno lol bits its been great had a problem where 2 of the rocker arms the studs that hold them down pulled out of their thread but a quick re tap and new helicoil in both and haven't had any troubles since :) unfortunately I didn't get many pics of the rebuild due to time constraints ad tbh I just wante to drive it again  but I did get this 1 (yea I need to repaint the head and block :( )
Image

since its been rebuilt its been running like a dream, iv recently replaced both wishbones and new bolts for them, an the clutch cable aswell , feels like a brand new clutch! also done 1 other little job ;)
(again apologies for not many photos, as this is my daily I have to make sure its road worthy by the time the light goes :( )
starts like this
Image
Image
old turbo gone! erst gasket placed on
Image
Image
Image

and all back together , its a escort t3 turbo with brad new uprate actuator , and I bought a new samco oil return and new oil feed line for it, has been running on the new turbo for a few days now and runs good, not sure if I prefer the t3 to t2 tho! but il give it time plus its more scope for more power later on.. only thing I can say is iv had to move the rad forwards loads to clear the actuator that's the hardest bit Id of said about the conversion, piece of cake with a standard Intercooler or a front mount but my double capacity was a right Bic™ lol and yes I have an air filter to go on just a case of cutting the new metal pipe down to fit it, retro fitted my trusty k&n on the first outing with it and it fell off and got flattened  :(
gave it a quick wash aswell ad thought I'd stick up some pics incase people have forgotten what it looks like lol
Image
Image

next jobs on the list:
heat wrap exhaust
underseal floor pan and front arches
fit s2 escort LSD box that's been day in te kitchen or months

I'm sure more will happen just as and when money permits really, trying to get a new job which will hopefully bring in more ££
comments etc all welcome

I wouldn't of said it feels any faster or slower just a change in the way the power is delivered, with the t2 once you or to 2200-2400rpm it hits you like a brick wall and is instant , with the t3 it feels more smooth and a nice surge at around 3000-3300 but it will carry on revving round hard until the limiter with the t3 but tbh I still don't take it much past 5.5k just feels like ya ragging the funlumps off it lol
as for the heat wrap its the wrap stuff will be doing downpipe all te way back to the backbox, should hopefully add to the pops n bangs I already get :)

I'm sure we've been over this before ? its a mondeo servo with a escort m/c fitted, I still havnt come across a mondeo m/c without any take offs on the reservoir :-?

also didnt get any pictures yesterday as I was a man on a mission, I went to the scrap yard Thursday with me mate , and my gearbox started playing up, got nearly there and it jammed itself in 2nd wouldn't come out! so I parked it up and just went in te scrapyard nothing I could do anyway, then when I came out the scrapyard a few hours later I jumped in expecting to have to drive home in 2nd , and it popped out lovely and was all as normal :oooh: then about 300metres into our trip home it gave up on first and I couldn't get first for the rest of the day, so decided sod it i can't have it bein like that so yesterday I plonked in the s2 escort LSD gearbox I had day around and its so much nicer! I get all gears lovely and smooth now whereas before it had an awful crunch into 1st and 5th and reverse was useless would just pop out at any slight amount of clutch used, was a right pain to park!
very happy with te escort box :D

power delivery sounds sweet, sounds like a n/a 1800 130 zetec :P

ah sorry didnt mean to be ignorant having you said it before, didnt realise that combination would make it sit off centre

im planning to buy a mondeo servo at the end of the month fr my Si, so the Escort servo will be going in my mk2

and eventually will fit my 300mm lol

bet you cant wait to fit the LSD eh?! :D

jonyb4 :power delivery sounds sweet, sounds like a n/a 1800 130 zetec :P

except more power and more of a punch at those revs with it being boosted :p

not at all mate tbf it was a while ago

if you read above its already fitted I had to change the gearbox after the problems the fiesta box was giving me
if I'm completely honest with normal driving you don't really notice any difference, but saying that I haven't had chance or good enough weather to put it through its paces and see if its made an improvement altho I am expecting it to be a little better , as without the LSD putting power down coming out of a corner it would always light up the inside wheel   hopefully I should gain a bit more grip and not spin so much, also I should get smoke from both sides when doing a burnout  :Q

As for your LSD box I've had one sitting in my living room as a ornament for the past year the cat seems to like sitting on it but the misses hates it. keep up the good work dude :D

I was glad it was sorted  more on that later , I'm not too sure ATM financial situation isn't that great ATM tbh the main ones I'm aiming for are ultimate bhp down Lydenn and pvs (although wont be in my car) once iv got these paid for and sorted i will be looking into more shows! Main problem I struggle with is everything is so far away :( and my car drinks fuel  ended up spending over £90 on fuel going silver stone and back and didn't even have the toe down much  (it's not THAT far from me)

Will have an update for this when I can be asses to type it up and add pics (read that as later tonight :bonkers: )

Well after fitting the LSD gearbox that lasted about 2 weeks before this happenedImage
So this was replaced by an xr3i gearbox aswell as replacing both outer cv joints, I have also bought a zetec s gear linkage for it but am trying to find a way of modifying the linkage as opposed to drilling holes in the car . Any thoughts on this could be helpfull.
Also had both front tyres replaced , best tyres iv ever driven on IMO outstanding grip in the dry and still surprise me how well they hang on in the wet also ! Image proxie t1r's if you don't know..
Also replaced my headlight bulbs as they were horrid before ! Really yellow and dim, bought some LED sidelights and osram night breaker + bulbs and tbf again I'm over the moon! Bloody brilliant bulbs so much more visability and with the sidelights look a lot better too here's a pic to compare the sidelights of, 2nd pic is a bit more bluey than it is in person .

And also finished wiring up my mk4 clocks , fancied something different you don't see many mk3's with these clocks in and the rev
Counter flies all the way round rather than 90 degree dial sorta thing :P :Q

Also made a start on heat wrapping my exhaust only had 10m so only got the down pipe and exhaust system up to underneath the gear linkage done but was applied wet , wrapped tight and overlapped about 50/50 as I'd rather have too much overlap than not enough, quick pic of the down pipe

And last but not least gave it a well needed wash and thought I'd take a few pics, always had trouble getting the picture to show the proper colour of this but I think iv got it this time if photo bucket doesn't mess it up :P

yeah sure i read.. do me a favor and point out there its written and ill stand corrected... [ERRR] ive read it 3 times now and you've not put the words "im wrapping the exhaust downpipe to backbox", just i need more wrap 10M doesnt get far

why you wrapping it all? its 100% pointless and waste of money :oooh: heat shielding isnt even needed yet its more than upto the job!
if you wrap it all, it will get just shredded and ripped off by speed bumps and stones

P.S. yes i do miss what you type on occasion, using paragraphs and ending a sentence on full stops makes things so much easier to read ;-)
