Re: Russ' mint green FRST sleight bufty session
Well yesterday I was bored and fed up with not doing anything cos of rain/snow (apparently) so I decided to do a few little jobs iv been wanting to do for a while now, first of all
Take one engine bay, now 2 things have always annoyed me here 1 how minging the header tank is and that I couldn't ever see how much was in it ,and 2 the mass of wires that run along the bulkhead, I have always thought this made it look very messy
First job remove the bottle
Glad to see no rust (yes it's just dirt I did clean it out to check before re assembly, now 1 minging bottle
Pretty horrid so I attacked it with a pressure washer and bottle brush
Also you can see it came up well altho I couldn't get into most of the chambers it is much better
Photos don't do much justice it is alot better than it was and I can even see the water level and colour of it
TBC.

Re: Russ' mint green FRST sleight bufty session
The next thing I done was pressure wash off the bay as its filthy during this I managed to find a ratchet I thought I lost ages ago!
now before I tackled the wiring a few things had to be removed, the sensor under the edis module.. What is it??
It has a 3 pin plug that goes in and iv just found out iv never had this plugged in!
Anyway onto the wiring, I always thought you could hide it all behind the firewall with a few holes placed for wires to sensors, upon closer investigation I saw there was two rubber flaps at either end (water drain?) so I used these as the entrance for the loom to hide behind the firewall, and then only needed one hole after that and it all fitted, yes it clears all the wiper motor and linkage, it's a bit of a squeeze and could be made better if the box covered the heater motor was taken out/adjusted but I didn't want to mess with it, so remember the spaghetti junction I had before?
And now...
Now to sort out and hide the rest of the wiring and tidy up the bay a bit more, I might even wash it soon!

Re: Russ' mint green FRST sleight bufty session
I wouldn't recommend that mate: its new home is in an area that will always get wet and often retains moisture, not a good move with a ~20 year old loom
Capillary action due to surface tension means that water is drawn along wires for a considerable length, which is why alternator leads can end up corroding inside the sleeve by a meter or more away from the terminals.

you should have done the rice and cleaning product like cilit bang trick with the header tank mate, no offence but it doesnt look like much of an improvement compared to the effort removing it/bleeding the system

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :(
Well the snow hasn't brought me any luck was out in the car sat night and everything is running fine and normal, go to start it Sunday with all this decking snow :/ and it wouldn't kick in full throttle it just abouts gets to 500 odd revs whilst turning the key but won't actually kick over... Further investigation today
Iv been told to unplug the tps sensor and/or map sensor to see if these are faulty then check for air leaks etc. then your basic air fuel an spark and I'd they're all good then il get a compression test done although it shouldn't have frozen over
So yea not good news

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :(
Well had a little fiddle with the car today tried unplugging the tps and map sensor neither done anything, tried a spare coil pack and nothing, took the fuel pump fuse out and turned it over a little to clear the cylinders and then put the the fuse back in and still nothing....... running out of ideas now goin to check spark and fuel tomorow and my cambelt.
Anyone else got any ideas I can check ?????
I will get a compression test done soon aswell

Capillary action due to surface tension means that water is drawn along wires for a considerable length, which is why alternator leads can end up corroding inside the sleeve by a meter or more away from the terminals.
My advice is now more relevant than ever I would perform a continuity check on the loom.

Il take that as a "told us so " How do I got about that I take it it involves a multi meter which I don't have

Ahh no I'm not saying that yet, but it's just a concidence that you moved the loom recently. If you're sure it's an electric prob then its' best to get a cheap multimeter and check all the ECU wires.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/domestic-multimeter-37279 will do fine for measuring continuity and resistance (check both as internal corrosion can make the continuity test pass but still be relatively high resistance). Be wary of meters with built-in cables and probes, they're often too short to be any use !
Nothing to see here...

Yea it's got antifreeze in it but it has a leak from the rad so it doesn't stay in there long it does sound like normal when turning over but without it running lol, and ok is there anything else it could be before I check the loom? I'm going to check spark air and fuel today and check the cambelt and timing
