Russ' mint green FRST , update :)
Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( help needed
smidydevil :Yea it's got antifreeze in it but it has a leak from the rad so it doesn't stay in there long it does sound like normal when turning over but without it running lol, and ok is there anything else it could be before I check the loom? I'm going to check spark air and fuel today and check the cambelt and timing
Fuel cutoff switch and CPS are the likely ones - unless your coil has cracked in the cold (does happen).
Does the fuel pump prime on key position two?

I will check the fuel switch, and how would I know if the CPS is naff? I tried a a spare coil pack I have that I know is good and didn't change, and yeah it does prime at pos 2

It's not CPS or fuel cut off if pump primes. Have you taken out a plug and see if it sparks when cranking?

A compression test would confirm that. Have you checked/cleaned the ISCV?

Ive got a full head gasket set if you need one...

Hm it could be that the head gasket Has gone but I never let it over heat with the dodgy rad as soon as it got near N I'd turn it off and wait to cool down and refill with water lol
I will hopefully get borrow a conpression tester off someone and if it is then I will get hold of you lol is that with bolts aswell? As I was thinking if I have to have the head off I might aswell Stick some ARP head bolts in for good measure

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( FOUND THE PROBLEM
Well I'm pretty sure iv found the problem now, went out in the snow just now to check the timing and to me looks to be about 3 teeth out
This is the crank pulley timing mark lined up to the 0 on the timing marks
And this is where the timing mark is on the cam
When it should be here....
So yea looks like the belt has slipped about 3 teeth... Great! Geuss iv got to get the head off and see what the damage is
Ps. I turned the crank through 360 so the mark was at 0 again incase that timing was for cyl 4 and the timing mark on the cam was at about 7 o'clock so im pretty sure it's out

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( FOUND THE PROBLEM
I re timed the engine up to see if it would run, and it does but not great, it's not tappy which is what I would expect for valve/ piston contact but more rough like an exhaust blow and won't rev free nor idle it does rev but I don't want to give it death running like it is lol and it doesn't idle once I let off the throttle it dies but not quite straight away, whats people ideas?

I'm not sure if 3 teeth out is enough to hit the valves on CVH's. I'm sure someone more in the know will correct me.
do a compression test to make sure mate

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( FOUND THE PROBLEM
Well I got a compression test done and had no compression on cyl. 2 so looks like bent valves....
So we got started
Everything came off ok although we snapped 2 head bolts and a bolt to the thermostat housing, was strange on the head bolts as the two that snapped were completely dry and brown n rusted whereas the others were still the right colour and looked healthy, and the head gasket didn't look too good but it's getting changed now
Which left us with this
And then...
Not sure if you can see the damage in the pics very well my iPhone camera isn't great
But the exhaust valve is bent on cyl 2 not majorly and the pistons are untouched and it just the one valve so I'm counting this as a lucky escape

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( FOUND THE PROBLEM
Well small update on this been doing a few bits n bobs whilst collecting parts as it was deemed my head is ok to be rebuilt. So I decided whilst I had the head of I could get creative with a bit of paint so now my block looks like this
(only the 1st coat so not full coverage and it's alot brighter now )
my head will also be going this colour
Also I got bored of the brushed on silver hammerite look to my to rocker cover etc. So decided to spruce it up a little
This Shows how Metallicy the paint is well sort of
And then...
The paint came out Ok it's a nice colour just had a lil reaction here and there and I couldn't be assed to sort it out so it will stay like it for a little while I think it looks good tho and I needed something dark to go against the lairy green
Also the parts cupboard is growing now, I'm almost ready to begin the strip Down and rebuild.
Parts already got: inlet valve, lapping in stick and paste, an 87 degree thermostat, stud extractor to get the last snapped head bolt out of the block, "heavy duty" gearbox mounts, waterpump, cambelt kit, victor reinz head bolts set, and a full head gasket set including valve stem seals so I can change these now so I know there done , just waiting for my torque wrench to come through in the post and I think I have everything to begin the rebuild
Trying to source a new radiator before it gets back on the road too, also I think one of my rear wheel cylinders has had it
Will updat with some real work sometime soon I hope lol, apologies for the iPhone pics and c+c welcome

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( FOUND THE PROBLEM
Well this needs an update!
Started cracking on with the car lately, started Friday just gone built my head back up with the Bent valve replaced, yeah I checked over them all just incase just the 1 that got bent
Head painted and cam pulley back on and 1st valve lapped in
Lapping in the new inlet valve into cylinder 2
And just keep repeating untill you end up with this..
Inlet face cleaned up (still a bit of crap left in this photo)
Same again but exhaust side, the head still needs another coat in a few of these pics
New thermostat in for good measure
And that concludes the head rebuild
Will continue....

Re: Russ' mint green FRST ....not good :( FOUND THE PROBLEM
Well that was the head rebuilt so I got cracking Saturday with a mate to put a few more new bits on and get it together
New waterpump and cambelt and tensioner and bottom pulley on, big thanks to jay with his advise with the pulley 3 odd hours of beating and a whole can of lube it finally decided to pop off I also changed the crank seal whilst I was there
And the head plonked on, looks very bright and green
And all times up with the new cambelt kit, hopefully I don't slip a tooth this time
Then just piecing it back together
Mostly back together here altho iv noticed my oil breather pot has broken in storage so got a Idea for that, so all in all it's had, new valve, new gaskets throughout, head gasket and bolts, crank and cam seals, thermostat, valve stem oil seals, cambelt kit and waterpump so should be Ok for a while , we started piecing it together on Saturday and after a few mishaps, lost tools, many fag breaks and 20 mins wondering why I could turn it over by hand turned out to be I had left it in gear we got it back ready for start up Sunday afternoon
Got it jumped and fired up straight away! very happy and it runs so smooth and quite now and I managed to source the reason why my turbo was rattling had a minor zorst blow and a leek from the oil return, forgot to tighten the bolts up fully it's running really well and covered 80 miles in it so far can't explain how happy and relieved I was when It started lol I will get a vid and a few pics today for you as iv got to wash it it's filthy and I'm going up the scrappy for a few bits
Thanks to everyone that helped me with the questions I've asked, youl know who you are and thanks to John bean and my mate Kc (apoligise for the rubbish pics I only have my iPhone available for pics till I get a decent camera

Yea when the head and block were together it looked abit much but with all the other bits you can't really see half of it
If I'm honest looks good and easy to spot an oil leak with it being so bright going to give it a wash today got a new pair of front door cards yesterday so il get pics of these and the car and a vid if I remember
Radiator and clutch next on the list then it will be very healthy
