Russ' mint green FRST , update :)
Re: Russ' mint green FRST (rep) few pics from BHP show at lyden
well the weather was beautiful today so I decided to mince about on my car as its the first day iv had off in forever
don't really know where to start so il just whack the pics up and see what people think
so things I've done: respray the wheel that was already rubbed down just ran out of laquer , spray door handles
in graphite grey (they look great in real life , sprayed my oil cap graphite grey, touched up my interior plastics as they're we're a few scuffs on them mostly due to women and they're bloody high heels lol and fitted some 10magnecore leads oh and fitted a new exhaust rubber as my exhaust was sitting low before
plans to do next: new clutch, new handbrake cable as I snapped it a week or so ago and get started on re undersealing the car..

was just because at the time I didn't have enough brake fluid to bleed the whole system with empty lines and fill a new m/c so I kept the m/c I had and just changed the servo lol it works so I'm not too fussed

Re: Russ' mint green FRST (rep)small update
well not really done much with the car lately just been paying bills but thought I'd stick up a few photos of the little I have done
started re undersealing the boot floor, has come up nice still needs another layer or two but alot smarter than original I think, can't wait for the whole underneath to be done
also whilst I was there I test fitted my Mondeo mk3 calipers to see if they would fit behind the vts wheels, also could any clarify which discs I use with these? it is the 300mm st170's isn't it. ?
also put them up against my RS turbo mintex discs they look massive on these discs haha
also got a new clutch sat in my room waiting to be fitted as the current one is fubbared only a standard clutch ATM as havent got the money for an uprated one ATM and it will do untill it can't cope
and the handbrake cable I need to replace along with the oil return gasket

Re: Russ' mint green FRST (rep) update 22/5
an just a couple of pics that were taken of my car yesterday at the meet, thought I'd share them
hopefully doing my clutch tomorow and if all goes well might get the cable and gasket done aswell , then I need to sort the engine mount as that's buggered, the air filter hose as its split down where it mounts to the turbo, and I think my sump gasket is leakin so will get a new sump and gasket and change that aswell, and the sooner I get more underseal the more il get done underneath
will get pics as and when I do more bits to the car, as always comments etc. are welcome

Re: Russ' mint green FRST (rep) small update
been doing a few little bits on the car lately 1 of which I'm sure many will be happy iv finally sorted anyway car has just clocked over 80k so was due another service,
so whipped the plugs out
and then the oil was disgraceful !! and not to mention when I poured it back into the bottled only measured 3ltrs so tht oil leak had done enough !
so replaced all with new stuff would of got magnatec which is what I normally used but they only had 5-30 I think in there so got this
buckets of goods
also cleaned out my k&n cone filter whilst I was at it that was stupidly dirty lol used a degreasor that evaporates and then blasted out with a jet wash then dried with an air line and coated in WD 1 to rid of any water 2 to coat/lube the filter up for better filtration, all I can say is the puddle afterwards was mining and the wastegate chatter is fully restored
also got 1 other thing with my service, and here's a pic of my mate holdin the old one up to show the difference, and quite impressed has smartened it up a fair bit
no more updates for a little while as I'm skint bloody bills lol il be cleaning my car today or in the next so will stick some up of that aswell
all comments welcomed as always

rsturbonutter :Is that semi synthetic any good for the rs turbo mate
pfft who knows mind you I can't say I ever bother to notice whether it's part or full synthetic anyway it's only the additives in the oil tht make the difference anyway iirc so aslong as its a decent oil I wouldn't of thought its be any different mate

Those additives make a big difference... I wouldn't run it on anything other than fully synthetic being that it's got a turbo. Fully synthetic oil maintains the correct viscosity at higher temperatures for much longer than part synthetic. Fully synthetic is also much better for cold starts than other oils as it's not as "sticky" and flows easier, and quicker, very important for a turbo!

Re: Russ' mint green FRST (rep) small update
well been having lots of problems lately with the car over heating and now an electrical problem aswell things are getting silly with this car and it's a proper money pit getting fed up with it always breaking and pouring money that I don't have into fixing it all the time, considering selling it or breaking it, problems being that 1 if I sell it I doubt il get much for it
even if I do fix it and 2 I don't have anywhere off the road to keep it so breaking it might be a problem ( really don't know what to do with it ATM my mate is coming over Monday to have a look at everything for me...

When it does work with no faults at all do you love it? It's an old car, it has issues! You should see my project thread on fiesta SI, or anyone's really. We all have issues but we love our cars and that's why we keep them.

Re: Russ' mint green FRST (rep) more bloody problems!!!!!!
yeah when it works is great fun to drive and iv got alot of history with it, but iv spent £4k+ on it so far an not got much to show and it's still breaking waiting for my friend to come and check it over Monday and see why the damage is... I am contemplating changing over to a full zetec turbo for reliability and
tune ability but depends on how much I'd need to spend to convert to it and what parts I'd need etc. just gathering info ATM but if it works out better than fixing the CVH I'd be tempted
aargh don't ya just love fords still its all character

Re: Russ' mint green FRST problems found!! :)
well lately the car hasnt been great, it popped my oil cap off at one point (no idea why maybe just wasn't on there properly) so I stuck on a spare I had lying around but didn't notice it wasnt quite circular and had been bent at some
point, this lead to oil leaking out of the cap, and driving it back from a mates a few nights ago (about 100m from my house) the car started to run on 3 cylinders, so limped it to mine as it is literally down the road and parked it up for the night...
went out to see what the deal was in the morning (hoping it was a loose ht lead or somin ) and I think where it's run low on oil has caused the head gasket to go, I checke my dipstick and it had very small amount of oil on the bottom and some white mayo/gunk and the header tank reals of petrol plus it smokes when run so I'm guessing this is the head gasket as everything else in the water system is new lol so going to have to whip it apart and change the head gasket get the head skimmed etc. and Im hoping to get on my 1st track session at lydenn by the end of September, so iv got some work to do whilst I'm not at work
have collected a few parts so far tho
got myself a t3 turbo in need of a rebuild but it's a start on the t3 conversion parts
bought myself some wind deflectors but realised when they got here that they are for the mk2
got a whole rear drum brake set up both sides as I replaced my handbrake cable the other week and still have no handbrake so I'm guessing the ratcheting system isn't working properly or somin so going to replace it all,
ordered a victor rienz head gasket and head bolts today
and just ordered my st170 discs and 5l of dot 4 brake fluid so hopefully my brakes
will be sorted 100% by lydenn
so yea cars been a bit neglected ATM just sat outside my house, I haven't even washed it since ford fair
will get some more pictures and updates as and when stuff happens
